HOUSE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
Representatives are pleased to congratulate the pastor and
congregation of St. Patrick Church in Decatur on the 100th
anniversary of the church dedication; and
WHEREAS, The cornerstone of the current building was laid
in 1908; the dedication of the new building was on November 21,
1908; and
WHEREAS, An eight-room school was completed in 1913; St.
Joseph Hall was opened by the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) in
1947; and the rectory was built in 1949; and
WHEREAS, The 100th anniversary of the parish was celebrated
in 1953; the church was remodeled in 1955 and the basement was
remodeled in 1957; and in 1976 the church was renovated and air
conditioning was installed; and
WHEREAS, In 1982 the steeple roof was replaced; in 1987 an
elevator, ramp, and vestibule were installed; and in 1992 a
restoration campaign was started with the renovation completed
in 2002; and
WHEREAS, The sesquicentennial celebration was in 2003 with

Bishop George Lucas presiding; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
congratulate the pastor and congregation of St. Patrick Church
and wish them the best for the future; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to Father Jeff Grant as a symbol of our respect and
esteem.
