| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Loaves & Fishes Community | ||||||
| 4 | Services of Naperville as it commemorates four decades of | ||||||
| 5 | unwavering dedication and impactful service to its community; | ||||||
| 6 | and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, From its humble beginnings in 1984, sparked by a | ||||||
| 8 | group of compassionate members from St. Raphael Catholic | ||||||
| 9 | Church who served eight families struggling with food | ||||||
| 10 | insecurity, Loaves & Fishes Community Services (Loaves & | ||||||
| 11 | Fishes) has now evolved into the largest food pantry in | ||||||
| 12 | Illinois and into a beacon of hope, providing nourishment and | ||||||
| 13 | assistance to over 9,000 individuals each week across DuPage, | ||||||
| 14 | Kane, Kendall, and Will Counties; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Loaves & Fishes has operated from a closet in St. | ||||||
| 16 | Raphael Catholic Church, in a trailer located on 5th Avenue in | ||||||
| 17 | Naperville, and at its current flagship building in | ||||||
| 18 | Naperville; the organization has a 30,000 square foot food | ||||||
| 19 | distribution hub in Aurora and numerous sites for food | ||||||
| 20 | distribution; and
| ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, Loaves & Fishes went from serving a few cans of | ||||||
| 22 | food to serving more than 15 tons of healthy food each | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | distribution day, supporting the overall health of clients and | ||||||
| 2 | the growth and development of children; and
| ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, Through the dedication and tireless efforts of | ||||||
| 4 | its board, staff, donors, and hundreds of volunteers, Loaves & | ||||||
| 5 | Fishes has provided access to healthy food and impactful | ||||||
| 6 | programs to empower struggling families towards | ||||||
| 7 | self-sufficiency; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, In addition to grocery assistance, Loaves & | ||||||
| 9 | Fishes offers numerous programs for self-sufficiency, | ||||||
| 10 | including emergency assistance for rent or utilities, job | ||||||
| 11 | readiness, car donations, and Volunteer Income Tax Assistance | ||||||
| 12 | (VITA); and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Beyond the distribution of food and programs, | ||||||
| 14 | Loaves & Fishes has fostered a culture of dignity, compassion, | ||||||
| 15 | and hope within its community, impacting the lives of | ||||||
| 16 | countless individuals and families; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, On this milestone occasion of its 40th | ||||||
| 18 | anniversary, it is fitting to recognize and celebrate the | ||||||
| 19 | remarkable achievements and steadfast dedication of Loaves & | ||||||
| 20 | Fishes in its mission to end hunger and transform lives; | ||||||
| 21 | therefore, be it
