2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Private | ||||||
4 | First Class Miguel A. Villalon of Aurora, who passed away in | ||||||
5 | Afghanistan on January 11, 2020; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, PFC Villalon was raised in the Rio Grande Valley | ||||||
7 | of Texas; he attended school in Brownsville, Texas from 2004 to | ||||||
8 | 2013; he attended East Aurora High School, where he became | ||||||
9 | captain of the JROTC drill team; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, PFC Villalon joined the U.S. Army in 2018; he was | ||||||
11 | assigned to the 307th Brigade Engineer Battalion, 3rd Brigade | ||||||
12 | Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division based in Fort Bragg, North | ||||||
13 | Carolina; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, PFC Villalon was killed after an improvised | ||||||
15 | explosive device struck his vehicle in Kandahar province, | ||||||
16 | Afghanistan; he was participating in Operation Freedom's | ||||||
17 | Sentinel, a U.S. training and counterterrorism mission; he was | ||||||
18 | on his first combat deployment; he was awarded the Purple | ||||||
19 | Heart, the Bronze Star, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army | ||||||
20 | Achievement Medal with "C" Device, the Army Achievement Medal, | ||||||
21 | the Army Good Conduct Medal, and the Combat Action Badge; and

2 | great-grandmother, Rita Rios; his grandmother, Olivia Mendoza; | ||||||
3 | his aunt, Maria Guzman; and his brother, Jesus Villalon Jr.; | ||||||

5 | WHEREAS, PFC Villalon is survived by his mother, Olivia | ||||||
6 | Guzman Villalon; his father, Jesus Villalon; his brothers, | ||||||
7 | Arnoldo and Antonio Fernandez; his maternal grandfather, | ||||||
8 | Arnoldo Guzman; his paternal grandparents, Juan Villalon and | ||||||
9 | Elsa Garcia; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, extended | ||||||
10 | family, and friends; therefore, be it

11 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
12 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
13 | we mourn the passing of Private First Class Miguel A. Villalon | ||||||
14 | and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and | ||||||
15 | all who knew and loved him; and be it further

17 | presented to the family of PFC Miguel Villalon as an expression | ||||||
