| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to thank the workers of Waste | ||||||
| 4 | Management Inc. in Elgin for their hard work and diligence in | ||||||
| 5 | saving Old Glory from the trash; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, All 26 drivers at Waste Management's Elgin | ||||||
| 7 | facility work together to pull flags from the trash; the idea | ||||||
| 8 | started about four years ago with two drivers who now work for | ||||||
| 9 | the company in other towns; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Representatives with the American Legion's | ||||||
| 11 | headquarters in Indianapolis, blame ignorance of federal code, | ||||||
| 12 | which says United States flags should be discarded in a | ||||||
| 13 | dignified manner, preferably by burning; boxes of flags in the | ||||||
| 14 | office fill up more before a big holiday, such as Memorial Day | ||||||
| 15 | or the 4th of July; some arrive torn to pieces, others are in | ||||||
| 16 | nearly perfect condition; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Since October of 2008, 304 flags have been | ||||||
| 18 | collected out of the garbage and donated to the American Legion | ||||||
| 19 | Post 57 in Elgin; the American Legion properly disposes of used | ||||||
| 20 | American flags, whether large or small; and
| ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, The men and women of Waste Management Inc. | ||||||

| 19 | his efforts; and

| 20 | WHEREAS, Working together, the men and women of Waste | ||||||
| 21 | Management Inc. have shown patriotism and pride in their | ||||||
| 22 | country and the flag through these efforts; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 23 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||

| 1 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||

| 4 | and making sure that flags are disposed of in a proper manner; | ||||||
