| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of former | ||||||
| 4 | State Representative Daniel L. Houlihan of Wilmette, who passed | ||||||
| 5 | away on November 13, 2013; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Daniel Houlihan was born in Chicago on July 29, | ||||||
| 7 | 1936; he earned his Bachelor of Science and Juris Doctor | ||||||
| 8 | degrees at Loyola University Chicago; he served his country in | ||||||
| 9 | the United States Marine Corps Reserves; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Daniel Houlihan began his career as an Assistant | ||||||
| 11 | State's Attorney for Cook County from 1962 to 1966 and as | ||||||
| 12 | Special Assistant Attorney General of Illinois from 1966 to | ||||||
| 13 | 1967; he rose to prominence as a zoning attorney; he was | ||||||
| 14 | elected State Representative for the 28th District in November | ||||||
| 15 | 1972 and served 3 terms; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Daniel Houlihan was the longtime Legislative | ||||||
| 17 | Counsel for the Illinois State Bar Association and | ||||||
| 18 | long-standing Board of Directors Member for Misericordia Heart | ||||||
| 19 | of Mercy, and a member of Catholic Charities Advisory Board; | ||||||
| 20 | and
| ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, Daniel Houlihan was the beloved husband for 50 | ||||||

| 1 | years of Mary Alice (nee Loftus) Houlihan; the adored father of | ||||||
| 2 | Margaret (Jim) Smith, Kathleen (David) Motzenbecker, Marty | ||||||
| 3 | (JoAnn) Houlihan, Bridget (Mike) Kennedy, Molly (Peter) | ||||||
| 4 | McDermott, and Nora Houlihan; the proud grandfather of Jack and | ||||||
| 5 | Maeve Smith, Fiona Motzenbecker, Grace, Claire, and Danny | ||||||
| 6 | Houlihan, Donny, Tommy, and Joe Kennedy, and Patrick and | ||||||
| 7 | William McDermott; the caring brother of Paul (Kay) Houlihan, | ||||||
| 8 | Tom "Brian" Houlihan, Mary (John) McCloskey, Mike (Mary) | ||||||
| 9 | Houlihan, and the late Bill Houlihan and John (Vicky) Houlihan; | ||||||
| 10 | the fond brother-in-law of Jim (Jean) Loftus, Cathy (the late | ||||||

| 12 | Peg Klug; uncle to many nieces and nephews; and friend to many; | ||||||

| 14 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 15 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 16 | we mourn the passing of former State Representative Daniel L. | ||||||
| 17 | Houlihan, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, | ||||||
| 18 | friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
| ||||||
| 19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 20 | presented to the family of Daniel Houlihan as an expression of | ||||||
| 21 | our deepest sympathy.
