HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Commander Paul B. Nelson
4on the occasion of his retirement from the Aurora Police
5Department; and
6 WHEREAS, Paul Nelson was appointed as a police officer for
7the City of Aurora Police Department on June 29, 1987; and
8 WHEREAS, Paul Nelson served in all three bureaus within the
9Aurora Police Department and as Interim Chief; as a police
10officer, he served in patrol, investigations, and the gang task
11force; as a sergeant, he served as a patrol supervisor; as a
12lieutenant, he served as Patrol Watch Commander for the day and
13night shifts, Coordinating Officer for the Field Training
14Officer Program, Lieutenant in charge of Central Services, the
15Office of Professional Standards, and the Investigative
16Services Lieutenant; as a commander, he served as Commanding
17Officer of the Investigative Services Bureau and Support
18Services Bureau; and
19 WHEREAS, Paul Nelson was also a long-term member and
20Commanding Officer of the Special Response Team and Chairman of
21the Employee Review Board; and

1 WHEREAS, During his service to the Aurora Police
2Department, Paul Nelson received a Life Saving Award from the
3Illinois Police Association and a Medal of Valor when he helped
4save the lives of three people whose car drove off of the New
5York Street bridge; he was also recognized for saving a man who
6tried to stab himself; he was named the Aurora Police
7Department Employee of the Year and was nominated for the
8Exchange Club Officer of the Year; he received 12 appreciation
9letters and ten department commendations; therefore, be it
10 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
11HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
12congratulate Commander Paul B. Nelson on his retirement from
13the Aurora Police Department, and we commend him for his 30
14years of service to the citizens of Aurora; we wish him the
15best in all of his future endeavors; and be it further
16 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to Paul Nelson as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
