| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Commander Paul B. Nelson | ||||||
| 4 | on the occasion of his retirement from the Aurora Police | ||||||
| 5 | Department; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Paul Nelson was appointed as a police officer for | ||||||
| 7 | the City of Aurora Police Department on June 29, 1987; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Paul Nelson served in all three bureaus within the | ||||||
| 9 | Aurora Police Department and as Interim Chief; as a police | ||||||
| 10 | officer, he served in patrol, investigations, and the gang task | ||||||
| 11 | force; as a sergeant, he served as a patrol supervisor; as a | ||||||
| 12 | lieutenant, he served as Patrol Watch Commander for the day and | ||||||
| 13 | night shifts, Coordinating Officer for the Field Training | ||||||
| 14 | Officer Program, Lieutenant in charge of Central Services, the | ||||||
| 15 | Office of Professional Standards, and the Investigative | ||||||
| 16 | Services Lieutenant; as a commander, he served as Commanding | ||||||
| 17 | Officer of the Investigative Services Bureau and Support | ||||||
| 18 | Services Bureau; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Paul Nelson was also a long-term member and | ||||||
| 20 | Commanding Officer of the Special Response Team and Chairman of | ||||||
| 21 | the Employee Review Board; and

| 1 | WHEREAS, During his service to the Aurora Police | ||||||
| 2 | Department, Paul Nelson received a Life Saving Award from the | ||||||
| 3 | Illinois Police Association and a Medal of Valor when he helped | ||||||
| 4 | save the lives of three people whose car drove off of the New | ||||||
| 5 | York Street bridge; he was also recognized for saving a man who | ||||||
| 6 | tried to stab himself; he was named the Aurora Police | ||||||
| 7 | Department Employee of the Year and was nominated for the | ||||||
| 8 | Exchange Club Officer of the Year; he received 12 appreciation | ||||||
| 9 | letters and ten department commendations; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 10 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 11 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 12 | congratulate Commander Paul B. Nelson on his retirement from | ||||||
| 13 | the Aurora Police Department, and we commend him for his 30 | ||||||
| 14 | years of service to the citizens of Aurora; we wish him the | ||||||
| 15 | best in all of his future endeavors; and be it further
| ||||||
| 16 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 17 | presented to Paul Nelson as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
