| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Crystal Davis on the | ||||||
| 4 | occasion of being crowned Miss Illinois 2015 on June 13, 2015 | ||||||
| 5 | in the Marion Cultural and Civic Center in southern Illinois; | ||||||
| 6 | and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Crystal Dianne Davis was born on January 30, 1993 | ||||||
| 8 | to W.L. and Debra Davis in Anna; at the age of 22, she is about | ||||||
| 9 | to begin her senior year at Southeast Missouri State University | ||||||
| 10 | in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, where she is currently studying to | ||||||
| 11 | obtain a degree in public relations; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Crystal Davis has, through the years, devoted much | ||||||
| 13 | hard-work, time, and effort to beauty pageantry, having | ||||||
| 14 | competed in her first pageant at age 13; most recently, Ms. | ||||||
| 15 | Davis was named Miss Southern Illinois 2015 on August 9, 2014; | ||||||
| 16 | and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Crystal Davis successfully competed for the title | ||||||
| 18 | of Miss Illinois alongside 31 fellow, worthy participants who | ||||||
| 19 | each vied for the distinguished privilege to be called Miss | ||||||
| 20 | Illinois 2015; she demonstrated her noteworthy skill by gracing | ||||||
| 21 | the Marion Center audience with her rendition of Frank | ||||||
| 22 | Sinatra's standard, "That's Life"; and

| 1 | WHEREAS, Crystal Davis ran on a service platform that she | ||||||
| 2 | called, "Crystal Clear Driving, Eyes on the Road"; the focus of | ||||||
| 3 | this campaign was to bring attention to the issue of distracted | ||||||
| 4 | driving, which is a societal danger that leads to many a | ||||||
| 5 | motor-vehicle accident each year, especially among young | ||||||
| 6 | adults; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Crystal Davis ultimately proved to set herself | ||||||
| 8 | apart from the rest of the participants by successfully | ||||||
| 9 | showcasing her medley of exceptional traits and talents that | ||||||
| 10 | extend outside of the realm of physical beauty; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Apart from undoubtedly being gorgeous on the | ||||||
| 12 | outside, Crystal Davis has a most remarkable and splendid | ||||||
| 13 | personality which is rooted in her faith, love for friends and | ||||||
| 14 | family, and charity provided to others, especially the most | ||||||
| 15 | vulnerable of all, children; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, As part of her participation in the Miss Illinois | ||||||
| 17 | 2015 pageant, Crystal Davis focused many of her efforts in | ||||||
| 18 | raising money for the Children's Miracle Network, an | ||||||
| 19 | organization that raises funds for children's hospitals, | ||||||
| 20 | medical research, and community awareness; over the last 3 | ||||||
| 21 | years, she has raised $7,800 for the organization; since being | ||||||
| 22 | crowned Miss Illinois, she has raised another $10,000 for the | ||||||

| 1 | charity; and
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Since becoming Miss Illinois 2015, Crystal Davis | ||||||
| 3 | has taken part in various events and performances that try to | ||||||
| 4 | benefit her community and bring awareness to different noble | ||||||
| 5 | causes, including appearing at a tea party with girls who | ||||||
| 6 | suffer from autism in Marion following her crowning as Miss | ||||||
| 7 | Illinois; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Crystal Davis will be taking her talents to the | ||||||
| 9 | national stage on September 13, 2015, where she will be proudly | ||||||
| 10 | representing her hometown of Anna, Union County, and the entire | ||||||
| 11 | State of Illinois in the 2016 Miss America Competition in | ||||||
| 12 | Atlantic City, New Jersey; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 13 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 14 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 15 | congratulate Crystal Davis on being crowned Miss Illinois 2015 | ||||||
| 16 | and wish her great luck as she represents Illinois in the 2016 | ||||||
| 17 | Miss America pageant in Atlantic City, New Jersey; and be it | ||||||
| 18 | further
| ||||||
| 19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 20 | presented to Crystal Davis as a symbol of our appreciation and | ||||||
| 21 | congratulations.
