| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate the residents of | ||||||
| 4 | the Village of Arlington Heights on the occasion of the | ||||||
| 5 | village's 125th anniversary of incorporation in 2012; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, The Village of Arlington Heights was incorporated | ||||||
| 7 | on January 18, 1887 with a population of approximately 1,000 | ||||||
| 8 | residents; many of the early inhabitants of the Village were | ||||||
| 9 | farmers, but the village soon became one of the earliest | ||||||
| 10 | commuter suburbs after the completion of the train depot; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, The Village of Arlington Heights continued to grow | ||||||
| 12 | and experienced an increase of residents in the years following | ||||||
| 13 | the founding of the Arlington Park Race Track after World War | ||||||
| 14 | II; the 1950's and 1960's were a time of widespread growth due | ||||||
| 15 | to the expansion of the Chicago-area economy and the increase | ||||||
| 16 | of automobile sales; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Today, the Village of Arlington Heights is the | ||||||
| 18 | largest community in Chicago's northwest suburbs, with the | ||||||
| 19 | village's 75,101 residents spread throughout the village's 17 | ||||||
| 20 | square-mile area; with its excellent access to trains, | ||||||
| 21 | expressways, and O'Hare International Airport, the village | ||||||
| 22 | maintains its popularity with commuters; and
| ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, The Village of Arlington Heights is renowned for | ||||||
| 2 | its outstanding school districts and park district, vibrant | ||||||
| 3 | cultural scene, progressive village planning, and small town | ||||||
| 4 | charm; the downtown area is a popular destination where | ||||||
| 5 | residents and visitors can explore a variety of new additions, | ||||||
| 6 | including the Metropolis Performing Arts Centre, movie | ||||||
| 7 | theater, retail shops, and numerous award-winning restaurants; | ||||||
| 8 | the 5-acre Lake Arlington, golf courses, and neighborhood | ||||||
| 9 | parks; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, The Village of Arlington Heights is home to the | ||||||
| 11 | Arlington Park Race Track, a world-class thoroughbred race | ||||||
| 12 | track that is home to the "Arlington Million", which features | ||||||
| 13 | outstanding thoroughbred horses from several continents; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, The Village of Arlington Heights' Northwest | ||||||
| 15 | Community Hospital was named one of the 50 best hospitals in | ||||||
| 16 | the nation for the treatment of cancer and digestive disorders | ||||||
| 17 | by the U.S. News & World Report; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 18 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 19 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 20 | we congratulate the residents of the Village of Arlington | ||||||
| 21 | Heights on the occasion of the village's 125th anniversary of | ||||||
| 22 | incorporation and wish them continued success and happiness in | ||||||

| 1 | the future; and be it further
| ||||||
| 2 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
| 3 | presented to Arlington Heights Mayor Arlene J. Mulder and the | ||||||
