| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Bill Moore on the occasion | ||||||
| 4 | of his 100th birthday on November 15, 2017; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Bill Moore grew up on a 200-acre farm in Kentucky, | ||||||
| 6 | the second youngest of nine children; he started school at the | ||||||
| 7 | age of four and enrolled in college at 15; he received his | ||||||
| 8 | degree in accounting at the age of 20 and earned a commission | ||||||
| 9 | with the United States Navy, rising to the rank of senior | ||||||
| 10 | lieutenant in the British West
Indies; after he was discharged | ||||||
| 11 | following the war, he and wife, Freda, settled in Aurora, where | ||||||
| 12 | he started an
accounting firm; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Bill Moore joined the Kiwanis Club of Aurora in | ||||||
| 14 | 1950; he is still an active member, driving himself to the | ||||||
| 15 | Prisco Community Center every Tuesday for the weekly
noon | ||||||
| 16 | meetings; he has been volunteering for the Kiwanis Pancake | ||||||
| 17 | Breakfast fundraiser ever since the first local breakfast was
| ||||||
| 18 | held in 1951; he has participated in the chapter's numerous | ||||||
| 19 | service projects, which have included everything from handing | ||||||
| 20 | out
peanuts to building playgrounds; he served as treasurer for | ||||||
| 21 | five years and on the board of directors; and
| ||||||
| 22 | WHEREAS, Bill Moore was named
Kiwanian of the Year in 1986; | ||||||

| 1 | in 2012, the Kiwanis Club of Aurora renamed its scholarship for | ||||||
| 2 | Waubonsee Community College graduates to attend
Aurora | ||||||
| 3 | University the "G. William "Bill" Moore Scholarship"; that same | ||||||
| 4 | year, he was named honorary president of the college; he and | ||||||
| 5 | two other World War II veterans served as a grand marshals in | ||||||
| 6 | Aurora's 2017 Memorial Day
parade; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, At age of 100, Bill Moore is the oldest member of | ||||||
| 8 | the Kiwanis Club of Aurora; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 9 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 10 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 11 | congratulate Bill Moore on his 100th birthday, and we wish him | ||||||
| 12 | many more wonderful years; and be it further
| ||||||
| 13 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 14 | presented to Bill Moore as an expression of our esteem and | ||||||
| 15 | respect.
