HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The United States engaged in operations during the
3Vietnam War from November 1, 1955 to November 30, 1975; and
4 WHEREAS, In 1961, North Vietnam advanced into South Vietnam
5using the Ho Chi Minh trail, which crossed into Laos; another
6war was subsequently waged, which became known as the Secret
7War; and
8 WHEREAS, Laotian soldiers and airmen were recruited and
9trained to engage in guerilla warfare against the North
10Vietnamese; they fought alongside American soldiers, rescued
11downed pilots, and defended American outposts; many were
12injured, tortured, and killed in the course of their duties;
13and
14 WHEREAS, After the evacuation of allied forces at the end
15of the war, these soldiers and their families were forced to
16flee to Thailand for refuge; many of these refugees eventually
17immigrated to the United States and chose Elgin as their new
18home; therefore, be it
19 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
20NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
21we show our support for the placement of an official plaque at

3Armed Forces during the Vietnam War; and be it further
4 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
