HOUSE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
Representatives wish to recognize the 2017 Day of the Dead
celebration in Aurora on November 5, 2017; and
WHEREAS, The Day of the Dead is a holiday celebrated
throughout Mexico, in particular the central and south regions;
it is also celebrated by people of Mexican ancestry living in
other places, especially the United States; the multi-day
holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for
and remember friends and family members who have died and help
support their spiritual journey; and
WHEREAS, The Day of the Dead celebration in Aurora began in
2012 as a way to remember loved ones who had passed throughout
the years; participants honor their loved ones' lives while
indulging in their favorite foods, drinks, music, and
achievements; and
WHEREAS, The goal of the Day of the Dead celebration in
Aurora is for families in the area to learn about cultures,
traditions, and perspectives on life and death; and
WHEREAS, The Aurora community plays a crucial role in this
celebration, bringing together participants of all skill

levels, ethnicities, ages, and backgrounds and helps provide
opportunities for all residents to achieve a common goal;
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
recognize the 2017 Day of the Dead celebration in Aurora on
November 5, 2017; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the organizers of this year's celebration.
