2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Father Jack Farry on the | ||||||
4 | occasion of the 50th anniversary of his ordination; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Father Farry attended Saint Sabina Grammar School | ||||||
6 | in Chicago, Quigley Preparatory Seminary in Chicago, Brooklyn | ||||||
7 | Preparatory Seminary in New York City, and St. Mary of the Lake | ||||||
8 | Seminary in Mundelein; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Father Farry was ordained as a priest on April 29, | ||||||
10 | 1965; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Father Farry began his career at Saint Bernard | ||||||
12 | Parish in Englewood, where he worked until 1969 when he became | ||||||
13 | the Catholic Community of Englewood Coordinator; he left in | ||||||
14 | 1975 to work with the Team Ministry at Saint Bernard Parish, | ||||||
15 | which was renamed Saint Benedict the African in 2001; and

16 | WHEREAS, In 1988, Father Farry left Saint Bernard Parish to | ||||||
17 | become Pastor of Saint Thomas the Apostle Parish until 2000; | ||||||
18 | while serving at St. Thomas, he was also an integral member of | ||||||
19 | the Hyde Park Inter-Faith Council; he served as chaplain to all | ||||||
20 | the local hospitals; he spearheaded preservation efforts at St. | ||||||
21 | Thomas, a national historic landmark; he was active in the life |

1 | of the students at St. Thomas and was a constant fixture in the | ||||||
2 | school, teaching religious life lessons to all grades; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Father Farry became pastor at Saint Andrew Parish, | ||||||
4 | where he led and ministered to that vibrant community until his | ||||||
5 | retirement in June of 2009; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Father Farry's rhetorical and spiritual gifts | ||||||
7 | have always made him the celebrant of choice at baptisms, | ||||||
8 | weddings, and funerals; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Father Farry inspired people throughout his | ||||||
10 | career to simply be good people, and he showed an admirable | ||||||
11 | lack of bias in his preaching; although he was a Chicago White | ||||||
12 | Sox fan, he had no problem ministering to both White Sox fans | ||||||
13 | on the South Side and Cubs fans up North; therefore, be it

14 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
15 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
16 | congratulate Father Jack Farry on the 50th anniversary of his | ||||||
17 | ordination; and be it further

18 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
19 | presented to Father Farry as a sign of our respect and esteem.
