HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Father Jack Farry on the
4occasion of the 50th anniversary of his ordination; and
5 WHEREAS, Father Farry attended Saint Sabina Grammar School
6in Chicago, Quigley Preparatory Seminary in Chicago, Brooklyn
7Preparatory Seminary in New York City, and St. Mary of the Lake
8Seminary in Mundelein; and
9 WHEREAS, Father Farry was ordained as a priest on April 29,
101965; and
11 WHEREAS, Father Farry began his career at Saint Bernard
12Parish in Englewood, where he worked until 1969 when he became
13the Catholic Community of Englewood Coordinator; he left in
141975 to work with the Team Ministry at Saint Bernard Parish,
15which was renamed Saint Benedict the African in 2001; and
16 WHEREAS, In 1988, Father Farry left Saint Bernard Parish to
17become Pastor of Saint Thomas the Apostle Parish until 2000;
18while serving at St. Thomas, he was also an integral member of
19the Hyde Park Inter-Faith Council; he served as chaplain to all
20the local hospitals; he spearheaded preservation efforts at St.
21Thomas, a national historic landmark; he was active in the life

1of the students at St. Thomas and was a constant fixture in the
2school, teaching religious life lessons to all grades; and
3 WHEREAS, Father Farry became pastor at Saint Andrew Parish,
4where he led and ministered to that vibrant community until his
5retirement in June of 2009; and
6 WHEREAS, Father Farry's rhetorical and spiritual gifts
7have always made him the celebrant of choice at baptisms,
8weddings, and funerals; and
9 WHEREAS, Father Farry inspired people throughout his
10career to simply be good people, and he showed an admirable
11lack of bias in his preaching; although he was a Chicago White
12Sox fan, he had no problem ministering to both White Sox fans
13on the South Side and Cubs fans up North; therefore, be it
14 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
15NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
16congratulate Father Jack Farry on the 50th anniversary of his
17ordination; and be it further
18 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to Father Farry as a sign of our respect and esteem.
