| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives with to congratulate the Sisters of St. Francis | ||||||
| 4 | of Mary Immaculate on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of | ||||||
| 5 | its founding; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, The congregation of the Sisters of St. Francis of | ||||||
| 7 | Mary Immaculate was founded by Mother Alfred Moes
in 1865 and | ||||||
| 8 | is the oldest social service provider in the Will County area; | ||||||
| 9 | and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, The Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate | ||||||
| 11 | built a motherhouse, took in orphans and boarding students, | ||||||
| 12 | staffed parish schools, and
welcomed new members to their | ||||||
| 13 | novitiate; they established a variety of ministries and built a | ||||||
| 14 | number
of Catholic institutions that continue to serve the | ||||||
| 15 | people of Joliet area; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, The Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate has | ||||||
| 17 | become an international entity, serving children and
families | ||||||
| 18 | in the United States and in South America; they serve in a | ||||||
| 19 | variety of locations in 13 states, 25 Archdioceses and | ||||||
| 20 | Dioceses, and
5 areas in Brazil; their sponsored institutions | ||||||
| 21 | include Joliet Catholic Academy, Our Lady of
Angels Retirement | ||||||
| 22 | Home, the Franciscan Learning Center in Joliet, and San Damiano | ||||||

| 1 | School in
Goiania Brazil (founded in 1970 with currently over | ||||||
| 2 | 900 students); and
| ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, Today, the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary | ||||||
| 4 | Immaculate serve as administrators, teachers, campus | ||||||
| 5 | ministers, tutors, and
librarians in many areas of the country | ||||||
| 6 | and overseas; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 7 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 8 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 9 | congratulate the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate on | ||||||
| 10 | its 150th anniversary and we wish them many more successful | ||||||
| 11 | years; and be it further
| ||||||
| 12 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 13 | presented to the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate as | ||||||
| 14 | an expression of our esteem and respect.
