HOUSE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Gerlanda
L. Miller, who passed away on December 10, 2021; and
WHEREAS, Gerlanda Miller was born to Leroy and Mable
Miller in New Orleans, Louisiana on February 21, 1963; she was
originally from Slidell, Louisiana and graduated from Slidell
High School; she earned her Bachelor of Science in Accounting
from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where she was
initiated into the Epsilon Beta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha
Sorority, Inc. in 1983 and later served as chapter president;
and
WHEREAS, Gerlanda Miller was a certified public accountant
and entrepreneur for over 25 years; she owned the Gerlanda L.
Miller, CPA Accounting Firm, assisting clients from
multi-million dollar corporations to foundations; she served
as a tax auditor for over 30 years and was an experienced IRS
audit negotiator; she was trained and licensed in Series 7
securities; she served as the secretary/treasurer of the
Service Employees International Union Local 1000 and was a
site manager for the Voluntary Income Tax Assistance Program;
she served as CFO of Kingdom Litigators Law Firm and was
treasurer of the Minority Apprenticeship Consulting

Corporation NFP; and
WHEREAS, Gerlanda Miller was dedicated to Alpha Kappa
Alpha Sorority, Inc.; she was both a Silver Star and a Life
Member; during her membership, she held a number of leadership
positions and served on a number of committees; on the
regional level, she served as chairman of the State of
Illinois Connection and as treasurer of the Central Region,
where she assisted in the planning of four successful and
fiscally sound regional conferences; she also served as a
member of the International Finance Committee; she became the
21st president of the Xi Nu Omega chapter, the largest chapter
in the Central Region and the Chicagoland area, in 2021; and
WHEREAS, Gerlanda Miller belonged to a number of
professional organizations, including the American Institute
of Certified Public Accountants, the Illinois CPA Society, and
the National Association of Black Accountants; and
WHEREAS, Gerlanda Miller was affectionately called "Tammy"
by her family; she was known for working with accuracy,
integrity, and innovation; she was an invaluable sister to her
sorority and will be dearly missed; and
WHEREAS, Gerlanda Miller is survived by her mother, Mable
Miller; her siblings, Martha, Clara, Johnny, Gerald, and

Patrick; a host of family and friends; and Sorors of Xi Nu
Omega Chapter and the Central Region of Alpha Kappa Alpha
Sorority; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
we mourn the passing of Gerlanda L. Miller and extend our
sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew
and loved her; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Gerlanda Miller as an expression of
our deepest sympathy.
