| 2 | WHEREAS, The International Brotherhood of Electrical | ||||||
| 3 | Workers (IBEW) was founded in 1891; the organization represents | ||||||
| 4 | about 750,000 workers in the electrical industry in the United | ||||||
| 5 | States, Canada, Panama, and several Caribbean nations; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Lonnie Stephenson was born in Moline; he was | ||||||
| 7 | initiated into the IBEW in 1976 and began his apprenticeship as | ||||||
| 8 | an inside wireman with IBEW Rock Island Local 145; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Lonnie Stephenson quickly became an active member | ||||||
| 10 | of IBEW Rock Island Local 145; he was appointed Vice President | ||||||
| 11 | in 1984 and President in 1987; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, Lonnie Stephenson led the effort to pass a $5 | ||||||
| 13 | million bond initiative in Davenport, Iowa, to help renovate | ||||||
| 14 | the city's waterfront area; in 1998, he helped to oversee the | ||||||
| 15 | construction of the Quad Cities Electrical Training Facility; | ||||||
| 16 | and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, In 2002, Lonnie Stephenson was appointed | ||||||
| 18 | Representative of the IBEW Sixth District, serving Illinois, | ||||||
| 19 | Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin; in 2010, he was | ||||||
| 20 | appointed International Vice President of the IBEW Sixth | ||||||
| 21 | District; and

| 1 | WHEREAS, On May 27, 2015, Edwin D. Hill announced his | ||||||
| 2 | retirement as IBEW International President; Illinois native | ||||||
| 3 | Lonnie Stephenson was named Hill's successor and will assume | ||||||
| 4 | the position of IBEW International President on June 1, 2015; | ||||||
| 5 | therefore, be it

| 6 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 7 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 8 | congratulate Lonnie Stephenson on the occasion of his | ||||||
| 9 | appointment as International President of the International | ||||||
| 10 | Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and wish him much success in | ||||||
| 11 | his new position; and be it further
| ||||||
| 12 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
