2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate the Streamwood | ||||||
4 | Park District on the occasion of the addition of the Hoosier | ||||||
5 | Grove Schoolhouse Museum to the Country School Association of | ||||||
6 | America's national historic register; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, The rich history of the Hoosier Grove Schoolhouse | ||||||
8 | Museum began in 1904, when local farmers in the Hanover | ||||||
9 | Township area got together with a carpenter from Bartlett to | ||||||
10 | build a one-room schoolhouse for their children; thanks in part | ||||||
11 | to the donation of an acre of land from a local farmer, the | ||||||
12 | schoolhouse was completed in the summer of 1904; and

13 | WHEREAS, With the school's location between Hanover and | ||||||
14 | Schaumburg Townships, the school was deemed to be in School | ||||||
15 | District 43 1/2; about 20 students attended school there every | ||||||
16 | year in grades 1 through 8 between 1904 and 1954, when the | ||||||
17 | school closed; the school was moved to its present location at | ||||||
18 | 700 West Irving Park Road in Streamwood in 1988; and

19 | WHEREAS, The diligent efforts of Rich Janiec and Linda | ||||||
20 | Zimmerman, who championed the effort to gather documents and | ||||||
21 | photographs and submit the collected data to the Country School | ||||||
22 | Association of America, were acknowledged by a letter and |

1 | certificate received from the Country School Association of | ||||||
2 | America in November of 2009 that announced that the schoolhouse | ||||||
3 | had met all the criteria and was to be awarded landmark status; | ||||||
4 | and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Through the efforts of the members of the | ||||||
6 | Streamwood Bicentennial Commission, the Streamwood Historical | ||||||
7 | Society, the Streamwood Village Board of Trustees, the | ||||||
8 | Streamwood Park District, Rich Janiec, and Linda Zimmerman, the | ||||||
9 | Hoosier Grove Schoolhouse Museum has become one of only 18 | ||||||
10 | one-room schoolhouses in America to be added to the Country | ||||||
11 | School Association of America's National Historic Register; | ||||||
12 | therefore, be it

13 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
14 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
15 | we congratulate the combined efforts of those involved and the | ||||||
16 | efforts of many unknown volunteers on the occasion of the | ||||||
17 | addition of the Hoosier Grove Schoolhouse Museum to the Country | ||||||
18 | School Association of America's National Historic Register; | ||||||
19 | and be it further

20 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
21 | presented to Rich Janiec and Linda Zimmerman as a symbol of our | ||||||
22 | esteem and respect.
