| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate the congregation | ||||||
4 | of Immanuel United Church of Christ on the occasion of the | ||||||
5 | dedication of the church's Heritage Marker; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, On June 3, 1852, five acres of land were donated | ||||||
7 | by W.G. Hubbard for the sole and exclusive use of erecting a | ||||||
8 | house for religious worship and a burying ground; in 1853, the | ||||||
9 | first building was erected and served as a church, school, and | ||||||
10 | parsonage; the church was called Immanuel German Evangelical | ||||||
11 | Lutheran Church; in 1959, a vote was taken to change the name | ||||||
12 | to Immanuel Church, United Church of Christ, Hanover Township, | ||||||
13 | Elgin, Illinois; in April of 1970, the name was changed to | ||||||
14 | Immanuel United Church of Christ; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, The first burial in the church's cemetery was held | ||||||
16 | in 1854; a new church building was built and dedicated in 1868 | ||||||
17 | and serves as the church building today; in 1879, a new school | ||||||
18 | house was built; the original building was remodeled and | ||||||
19 | subsequently served as the parsonage; the church's buildings | ||||||
20 | have gone through numerous renovations and revisions since; and

21 | WHEREAS, In May of 1911, the church's Women's Guild was | ||||||
22 | organized with 36 members; the Women's Guild has supported many |

1 | projects within the church and community; in 1985, the | ||||||
2 | Christian Outreach Group was formed for those ladies who worked | ||||||
3 | or were otherwise unable to attend the daytime Women's Guild; | ||||||
4 | the Women's Guild continues to meet on the first Thursday of | ||||||
5 | the odd number months; the church's first Youth Group was | ||||||
6 | formed in 1939; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Immanuel United Church of Christ has hosted | ||||||
8 | numerous events and celebrations throughout its rich history, | ||||||
9 | including the Chick'n Chop Fry, the Spring and Fall Rummage | ||||||
10 | Sales, and the Craft Fair; the church also takes part in many | ||||||
11 | charitable activities, including the PADS program, the Hanover | ||||||
12 | Township Food Pantry, Habitat for Humanity, and the Night | ||||||
13 | Ministry for the Homeless; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Many pastors have served the congregation of | ||||||
15 | Immanuel United Church of Christ over the years, including Rev. | ||||||
16 | Snell (1853 - 1854), Rev. C. Bofinger (1854 - 1857),

3 | WHEREAS, Immanuel United Church of Christ's Heritage | ||||||
4 | Marker will be dedicated during a ceremony on September 28, | ||||||
5 | 2011 at 5:20 P.M.; the Heritage Marker honors the final resting | ||||||
6 | place of three Civil War veterans, Richard Bode, Henry Folmer, | ||||||
7 | and Henry C. Schaefer, as well as several early settlers of | ||||||
8 | Hanover Township; therefore, be it
| ||||||
9 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
10 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
11 | we congratulate the congregation of Immanuel United Church of | ||||||
12 | Christ on the occasion of the dedication of the church's | ||||||
13 | Heritage Marker and wish them continued success and happiness | ||||||
14 | in the future; and be it further
| ||||||
15 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
16 | presented to the congregation of Immanuel United Church of | ||||||
17 | Christ as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
