| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Melissa McCarthy | ||||||
| 4 | for winning the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy | ||||||
| 5 | Series as Molly Flynn in the CBS sitcom Mike & Molly; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Melissa was raised on a farm in Plainfield, in a | ||||||
| 7 | "big, Irish-Catholic family"; she graduated from Joliet | ||||||
| 8 | Catholic Academy (Formerly St. Francis Academy) in Joliet; her | ||||||
| 9 | former classmates say she was always "funny and witty" in the | ||||||
| 10 | classroom and would add one-liners to any conversation; her | ||||||
| 11 | career started with stand-up comedy and includes film, | ||||||
| 12 | television, and theater; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, At the beginning of her career in 1997, she | ||||||
| 14 | appeared in an episode of the NBC comedy series Jenny; later, | ||||||
| 15 | she had supporting roles in the films The Kid, Charlie's | ||||||
| 16 | Angels, Go, The Third Wheel, and The Life of David Gale; she | ||||||
| 17 | also did voice work in 3 episodes of Kim Possible, where she | ||||||
| 18 | played DNAmy; she may be most well known for her role of Sookie | ||||||
| 19 | St. James, Lorelai Gilmore's best friend on The Gilmore Girls; | ||||||
| 20 | and

| 21 | WHEREAS, In the midst of her career, Melissa married her | ||||||
| 22 | longtime boyfriend, Ben Falcone, who is also an actor; they | ||||||

| 1 | have 2 daughters, Vivian and Georgette; while pregnant with | ||||||
| 2 | Vivian, her pregnancy was written into the Gilmore Girls | ||||||
| 3 | script; and

| 4 | WHEREAS, In her most recent work she has played character | ||||||
| 5 | roles in The Back-Up Plan, Life as We Know It, and the | ||||||
| 6 | successful and critically lauded film, Bridesmaids; since | ||||||
| 7 | 2010, she has played a leading role as Molly Flynn in Mike and | ||||||
| 8 | Molly, for which she won her Emmy; and

| 9 | WHEREAS, Residents in her home town say that Melissa has | ||||||
| 10 | not forgotten where she came from and has not changed at all; | ||||||
| 11 | her Emmy acceptance speech mentioned her home town of | ||||||
| 12 | Plainfield; therefore, be it

| 13 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 14 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 15 | we congratulate Melissa McCarthy for receiving the Emmy Award | ||||||
| 16 | for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series; and be it | ||||||
| 17 | further

| 18 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 19 | presented to Melissa McCarthy as a symbol of our respect and | ||||||
