2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of former | ||||||
4 | State Representative Harry "Bus" Yourell of Oak Lawn, who | ||||||
5 | passed away on September 19, 2011; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, He was born in 1919 in Hammond, Indiana and grew | ||||||
7 | up on the South Side of Chicago; he served in the Boy Scouts of | ||||||
8 | America and would hike to spend time at the Boy Scouts camp in | ||||||
9 | Valparaiso, Indiana; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, He served in World War II and survived being | ||||||
11 | bayonetted by a Japanese soldier; he earned a Bronze Star and 3 | ||||||
12 | Purple Hearts for his service; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, He served in the Illinois House of Representatives | ||||||
14 | from 1967 to 1984, serving in the 75th through 83rd General | ||||||
15 | Assemblies; he was the first chairman of the Joint Committee on | ||||||
16 | Administrative Rules and also served as Chairman of the | ||||||
17 | Election Laws Commission and the County Problems Commission; he | ||||||
18 | also served as Minority Spokesman for the Democrats in the 82nd | ||||||
19 | General Assembly; and

20 | WHEREAS, He also served as the Cook County recorder from | ||||||
21 | 1984 to 1988, 18 years as the Metropolitan Water Reclamation |

1 | District commissioner, was a trustee for the Village of Oak | ||||||
2 | Lawn, and was a former Worth Township supervisor; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, He and his wife enjoyed traveling around Europe | ||||||
4 | and Asia together; he once kayaked alone from Florida to the | ||||||
5 | Bahamas, as well as paddling up the Amazon River; he | ||||||
6 | bungee-jumped on his 85th birthday in New Zealand and danced | ||||||
7 | all night on his 90th birthday; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Harry Yourell was the beloved husband of Millie, | ||||||
9 | nee Evan; the devoted father of Michele (Larry) Collings, | ||||||
10 | Jeffrey (Nancy), and Peter Yourell; the proud grandfather of | ||||||
11 | Darin Collings, Lisa Cleaveland, Jennifer Filipowski, | ||||||
12 | Elizabeth Cataudella, and Ann Yourell; the great-grandfather | ||||||
13 | of Jacob and Megan Collings, Lili and Pierce Cleaveland, | ||||||
14 | Madison Yourell, and Steven Cataudella; the loving brother of | ||||||
15 | the late Geraldine (the late Matthew) Stern; and the fond uncle | ||||||
16 | of Harry Wolper; therefore, be it

17 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
18 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
19 | we mourn, along with his family, friends, and former | ||||||
20 | colleagues, the passing of Harry "Bus" Yourell; and be it | ||||||
21 | further

22 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
