HOUSE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
Representatives are pleased to congratulate the staff and
administration of Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital on the
occasion of being named one of the 2009 Thomson Reuters 100 Top
Hospitals; and
WHEREAS, The Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospitals: National
Benchmarks study is based on the 100 Top Hospitals National
Balanced Scorecard that evaluates performance in nine areas:
mortality, medical complications, patient safety, average
length of stay, expenses, profitability, cash-to-debt ratio,
patient satisfaction, and adherence to clinical standards of
care; and
WHEREAS, The National Benchmarks study has been conducted
annually since 1993; and
WHEREAS, Having a 100 Top Hospital award-winner in DuPage
County means that patients are measurably less likely to have a
complication, patients are more likely to receive care
efficiently at a reasonably comparative cost, and the community
can rely on the hospital as a well-managed major employer that
will continue to invest in the new technology and services
needed by the community; and

WHEREAS, Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital received this
distinction in the category of Large Community Hospitals; and
WHEREAS, Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital's medical staff
is comprised of more than 950 physicians representing 59
specialties, including cardiac care, emergency medicine,
trauma, women's and children's, oncology, and surgical
services; and
WHEREAS, The 340-bed hospital is the only Level 1 trauma
center in DuPage County serving communities in Kane, DeKalb,
Kendall, Will, and LaSalle Counties; and
WHEREAS, There are over 200 hospitals in Illinois and
Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital was one of seven to receive
this distinction; and
WHEREAS, The hospital, which employs more than 2,700
employees, was also named a "Best Place to Work" by Chicago
Magazine and is a recipient of the 2007 Lincoln Silver Award
for Progress Towards Excellence; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
congratulate the staff and administration of Advocate Good

Samaritan Hospital and wish them all the best as they continue
to serve the needs of the people of DuPage County and the State
of Illinois; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the staff and administration of Advocate Good
Samaritan Hospital as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
