2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Fred | ||||||
4 | Richard Hunter Jr. of Chicago, who passed away on September 13, | ||||||
5 | 2019; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Fred Hunter Jr. was born in Chicago to Ezzie Mae | ||||||
7 | Jackson Hunter and Fred Richard Hunter Sr. on February 25, | ||||||
8 | 1948; he committed to his faith at an early age and was | ||||||
9 | baptized at Antioch M.B. Church; he attended Chicago Public | ||||||
10 | Schools and graduated from Wendell Phillips High School in | ||||||
11 | 1965; he received his Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor | ||||||
12 | in French from Illinois State University; he received his | ||||||
13 | Master of Arts in English from Chicago State University; a | ||||||
14 | lifelong learner, he continued coursework related to his chosen | ||||||
15 | field, including proposal writing, communications, and | ||||||
16 | curriculum development, at a number of area colleges and | ||||||
17 | universities; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Fred Hunter Jr. began his career in education with | ||||||
19 | the Chicago Board of Education in 1969; he accepted assignments | ||||||
20 | at Bowen High School, where he taught English, and Whitney | ||||||
21 | Young High School, where he taught English, grammar, | ||||||
22 | literature, and journalism and was the Faculty Advisor for the | ||||||
23 | school newspaper, The Beacon; his classes were often |

1 | fun-filled, creative, and challenging; he later worked as an | ||||||
2 | editor for the Office of Instructional Services at the Chicago | ||||||
3 | Public Schools Central Office; he retired from that department | ||||||
4 | in 2004; after retirement, he worked for the Chicago Defender | ||||||
5 | and started his own business, Fred's Ed Editorial Services; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Fred Hunter Jr. was active in his community and | ||||||
7 | was a member of the National and Chicago Associations of Black | ||||||
8 | Journalists; he was a member of the Antioch M.B. Church for | ||||||
9 | many years; later, he transferred his membership to Mt. Pisgah | ||||||
10 | M.B. Church, the church his mother attended for over 50 years, | ||||||
11 | and was a member of the male chorus; he enjoyed spending time | ||||||
12 | with his classmates from Wendell Phillips and Illinois State | ||||||
13 | University, playing Bid Whist, dancing, playing tennis, and | ||||||
14 | wearing his Green Bay Packers wool cap; he will be remembered | ||||||
15 | for his good deeds and as a funny, considerate, caring person | ||||||
16 | who put the needs of others before his own; and

17 | WHEREAS, Fred Hunter Jr. is survived by his sister, | ||||||
18 | Carolyn; his nephews, Lamar and Antoine; his godsons, Darian, | ||||||
19 | David, and DuJuan; his Wendell Phillips and Illinois State | ||||||
20 | families; his caregivers, Bobbie and Rosalyn; and many other | ||||||
21 | relatives and friends; therefore, be it

22 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
23 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |

1 | we mourn the passing of Fred Richard Hunter Jr. and extend our | ||||||
2 | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew | ||||||
3 | and loved him; and be it further
| ||||||
4 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
5 | presented to the family of Fred Hunter Jr. as an expression of | ||||||
6 | our deepest sympathy.
