HOUSE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Maurie
Berman, who passed away on May 17, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Maurie Berman served in the military during World
War II, taking part in the Battle of the Bulge; and
WHEREAS, Maurie Berman married Flaurie Miska in 1947; in
May of 1948, they founded Chicago's iconic Superdawg Drive-In
and operated it for the next 67 years; he was also a certified
public accountant; and
WHEREAS, Maurie Berman is survived by his loving wife, best
friend, and business partner of 68 years, Flo "Flaurie"; he was
the cherished father of Scott (Terry), Myles "Mush", and Lisa
(Don) Drucker; the adoring grandfather of Alyssa "Lyssi"
(Jordan), Laura (Ben), Max, Steffie, and Ross; the
great-grandfather of Talia; the beloved brother of Rosa (Jerry)
Burkman; the beloved father-in-law of Pat Garcia (Julie
Barton); the grandfather-figure to Livi Barton; and Uncle
Maurie to many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we

mourn the passing of Maurie Berman, and extend our sincere
condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
him; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Maurie Berman as an expression of
our deepest sympathy.
