| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to show their support for the Jazz in the | ||||||
| 4 | Park for Charity 2009 event at Bicentennial Park in the | ||||||
| 5 | historic Village of Olympia Fields on July 26, 2009; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Jazz in the Park for Charity 2009 is a 4-hour | ||||||
| 7 | event, which features an eclectic variety of free food and | ||||||
| 8 | beverages from local restaurants, a silent auction, and door | ||||||
| 9 | prizes, all of which make this signature event memorable for | ||||||
| 10 | its attendees; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, The live jazz performances include world and | ||||||
| 12 | nationally renowned artists, including the headliner, | ||||||
| 13 | guitarist Nick Colionne, song stylist Ava Logan, and jazz and | ||||||
| 14 | world music performers, the Afro-Semitic Experience; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Jazz in the Park for Charity 2009 is partially | ||||||
| 16 | supported by a generous grant from the Charlene Davis Theater | ||||||
| 17 | Fund of the Anita M. Stone Jewish Community Center; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Jazz in the Park for Charity 2009 is a | ||||||
| 19 | collaborative effort of a dedicated and diverse group of | ||||||
| 20 | volunteers and organizations; and
| ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, The profits of Jazz in the Park for Charity 2009 | ||||||
| 2 | will benefit a number of effective, not-for-profit groups in | ||||||
| 3 | the Southland specializing in healthcare, social and community | ||||||
| 4 | services, good government, and education, including the CANN | ||||||
| 5 | Academy of Nursing, the Cooperative Jewish Council, Grand | ||||||
| 6 | Prairie Services, the Center for Multi-Cultural Communities, | ||||||
| 7 | the Twenty Pearls Foundation of the Lambda Tau Omega Chapter of | ||||||
| 8 | the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, the JASSAC Charitable | ||||||
| 9 | Foundation, Inc., the Sertoma Centre, the JESF Foundation of | ||||||
| 10 | the Theta Rho Omega Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, | ||||||
| 11 | the League of Women Voters of the Homewood/Flossmoor Area, the | ||||||
| 12 | South Suburban Chicago Links, and SouthSTAR Services; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Jazz in the Park for Charity was founded years ago | ||||||
| 14 | by Martin and Lois Anthonisen, who held the first event in the | ||||||
| 15 | backyard of their home; their dedication to charitable | ||||||
| 16 | organizations and community service is appreciated by citizens | ||||||
| 17 | across the entire Southland; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 18 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 19 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 20 | show our support for the Jazz in the Park for Charity event on | ||||||
| 21 | July 26, 2009 and wish continued good fortune and success in | ||||||
| 22 | the future to all groups involved; and be it further
| ||||||
| 23 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||

| 1 | presented to the organizers of the Jazz in the Park for Charity | ||||||
| 2 | event as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
