| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to recognize the sacrifice made by United | ||||||
| 4 | States Army Specialist Ron Gebur, who passed away in Iraq on | ||||||
| 5 | May 13, 2006; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Specialist Gebur was a platoon leader assigned as | ||||||
| 7 | a sniper with the U.S.
Army 4th Infantry Division based at Fort | ||||||
| 8 | Hood, Texas; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Specialist Gebur was deployed on a mission to Iraq | ||||||
| 10 | on December 13, 2005; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Dr. Kevin Marsh, the Battalion Surgeon of the 1-22 | ||||||
| 12 | Infantry wrote that just
prior to his death, Specialist Gebur | ||||||
| 13 | had been in the midst of a 4-day class designed to teach
more | ||||||
| 14 | medical skills to soldiers when his unit was called up for a | ||||||
| 15 | mission on or about
May 9, 2006, a mission from which | ||||||
| 16 | Specialist Gebur was excused to allow for completion of
said | ||||||
| 17 | class; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Specialist Gebur advised Dr. Marsh that his duty | ||||||
| 19 | was to be with his unit and
thus departed on the fateful | ||||||
| 20 | mission on May 9, 2006; and

| 1 | WHEREAS, Specialist Gebur was killed on May 13, 2006, | ||||||
| 2 | leaving behind his
wife, Bethany Gebur; his son, Gage Gebur; | ||||||
| 3 | his parents, Larry and Debra Gebur; and his sister,
Camille | ||||||
| 4 | Gebur; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Specialist Gebur's life was marked with a spirit | ||||||
| 6 | of selflessness and
dedication and he was known for being | ||||||
| 7 | big-hearted, kind, and a leader among the soldiers with
whom he | ||||||
| 8 | served; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, The Honor and Remember organization's mission is | ||||||
| 10 | to establish and promote
a nationally-recognized flag that | ||||||
| 11 | would adopt a universally-recognized symbol that
acknowledges | ||||||
| 12 | the American service men and women who sacrificed their lives | ||||||
| 13 | in support of their country; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Frontier Communications supports the mission of | ||||||
| 15 | the Honor and Remember
organization and will honor the memory | ||||||
| 16 | of Specialist Gebur
by presenting the Honor and Remember flag | ||||||
| 17 | to his son, Gage Gebur; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 18 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 19 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 20 | honor the service and the sacrifice of Specialist Ron Gebur and | ||||||
| 21 | we support the Honor and Remember organization's goal of a | ||||||
| 22 | universally-recognized symbol honoring the sacrifice of those | ||||||

| 1 | who perished serving our country; and be it further
| ||||||
| 2 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 3 | presented to Specialist Gebur's
family as an expression of our | ||||||
| 4 | respect and in further honor of Specialist Gebur's life.
