2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Verbena | ||||||
4 | Riley Rogers, who passed away on May 26, 2013; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Verbena Rogers was born on December 13, 1948, in | ||||||
6 | Inverness, Mississippi; her parents were Henry Riley Sr. and | ||||||
7 | Ethel McGee Riley; she married Jake Rogers Sr. in 1965; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Verbena Rogers moved to Chicago in 1971 and began | ||||||
9 | attending Union Missionary Baptist Church in 1977; during her | ||||||
10 | membership at Union, she regularly attended Sunday School and | ||||||
11 | Bible Study and served on the Mission Society, Contact | ||||||
12 | Committee, Golden Girls, and the Mother's Board; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Verbena Rogers was preceded in death by her | ||||||
14 | parents and her siblings, Henry Riley, Jr., Willie Lyons, and | ||||||
15 | Mattie Walker; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Verbena Rogers is survived by her children, Jake | ||||||
17 | Jr., Lloyd (Tonia), Floyd, Denise, Lashal, LaTanya, Verbena | ||||||
18 | Burns (Nathaniel), and Luke; her 27 grandchildren; her 17 | ||||||
19 | great-grandchildren; her sisters-in-law, Bobbie Riley and | ||||||
20 | Cassandra Riley; her godmother, Alice London; her goddaughter, | ||||||
21 | Michelle Williams; her godsisters, Bobbie Bradley and Gladys |

1 | Moreland; her godbrother, Reverend Freddie Harris; and her many | ||||||
2 | nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends; therefore, be it

3 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
4 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
5 | we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of | ||||||
6 | Verbena Riley Rogers; and be it further
| ||||||
7 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
8 | presented to the family of Verbena Rogers as an expression of | ||||||
9 | our sympathy.
