| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Malik | ||||||
4 | Alim of Chicago, who passed away on August 20, 2021; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Malik Alim joined the staff of the Chicago | ||||||
6 | Community Bond Fund (CCBF) in December of 2019 and quickly | ||||||
7 | became a champion for the movement to end money bond in | ||||||
8 | Illinois; he worked as CCBF's advocate and represented the | ||||||
9 | organization in many campaigns, such as the Budget for Black | ||||||
10 | Lives; his previous role at CCBF was as the campaign | ||||||
11 | coordinator for the Coalition to End Money Bond, and he played | ||||||
12 | an instrumental role in the passage of the Pretrial Fairness | ||||||
13 | Act, which allows individuals to be released prior to trial | ||||||
14 | without posting cash bond unless charged with specific | ||||||
15 | offenses or deemed a danger; and

16 | WHEREAS, Malik Alim also worked with the #LetUsBreathe | ||||||
17 | Collective and the Under the Tree Podcast; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Malik Alim is survived by his children and his | ||||||
19 | partner, Kristiana Colon; therefore, be it
| ||||||
20 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
21 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |

2 | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
