| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives would like to commend Mary Nell
Chew of | ||||||
| 4 | Carbondale for her generous donation of $83,000 to fund an | ||||||
| 5 | Honor Flight, giving
approximately 85 veterans an opportunity | ||||||
| 6 | to see the memorials and sights of Washington D.C.; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, While Mary Nell Chew is not a veteran herself, she | ||||||
| 8 | has six veterans in her family and
wanted to honor those who | ||||||
| 9 | served our nation by giving them an opportunity they would | ||||||
| 10 | never
forget; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Mary Nell Chew had applied to be a guardian with | ||||||
| 12 | the Veterans Honor Flight of
Southern Illinois but was denied | ||||||
| 13 | due to being "too old"; instead, she presented the
organization | ||||||
| 14 | with an $83,000 check, which helped many veterans experience | ||||||
| 15 | their first Honor
Flight; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Mary Nell Chew's donation funded the fifth Honor | ||||||
| 17 | Flight for the Veterans Honor Flight of Southern Illinois; it
| ||||||
| 18 | departed on May 14, 2019 with more veterans onboard than any | ||||||
| 19 | other previous flight; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 20 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 21 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||

| 1 | we commend Mary Nell
Chew for her generous donation
and | ||||||
| 2 | eagerness to honor those who have served our nation, and we | ||||||
| 3 | hope all of the veterans on
this Honor Flight had a fantastic | ||||||
| 4 | day in Washington D.C.; and be it further
| ||||||
| 5 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 6 | presented to Mary Nell Chew as a symbol
of our respect and | ||||||
| 7 | esteem.
