1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to recognize the opening of the | ||||||
4 | cornerstone of the Yale Building in Durand on July 3, 2013; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, The Yale Building was build in 1913 by James W. | ||||||
6 | Yale, a farmer who lived north of Durand, following a | ||||||
7 | devastating fire in the village in December of 1912; he was | ||||||
8 | determined to give Durand a business building worthy of the | ||||||
9 | village; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, The cornerstone was laid in September of 1913 in a | ||||||
11 | copper box, hermetically sealed; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Throughout the years, the Yale Building was home | ||||||
13 | to a handful of grocery stores on the first floor and doctor | ||||||
14 | and dentist offices on the second floor; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, The Yale Building has seen many changes throughout | ||||||
16 | the 100 years it has stood; from horse and buggies around the | ||||||
17 | center park to cars and from dirt roads to paved streets; 2 war | ||||||
18 | monuments have been dedicated to soldiers during the years, in | ||||||
19 | 1920 and 1997; and

20 | WHEREAS, The Yale Building is currently owned by Ken and |

1 | Sue (nee Gaffney) Gibler; therefore, be it
| ||||||
2 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
3 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
4 | we recognize the opening of the cornerstone of the Yale | ||||||
5 | Building on July 3, 2013; and be it further
| ||||||
6 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
7 | presented to the Village of Durand and to Ken and Sue Gibler as | ||||||
8 | an expression of our esteem and respect.
