2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Gene | ||||||
4 | Pool Marlin of Chatham, who passed away on July 17, 2023; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Gene Marlin was born to Charles and Doris Lucille | ||||||
6 | (Pool) Marlin in Heralds Prairie on September 18, 1941; he was | ||||||
7 | honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps; he married | ||||||
8 | Carol Ann Broaddus on January 1, 1982; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, In February 1963, Gene Marlin was appointed to | ||||||
10 | the Illinois State Police (ISP) in Cadet Class 30 and issued | ||||||
11 | badge number 977; he initially served as a trooper assigned to | ||||||
12 | the Toll Road Police District; he was promoted to corporal in | ||||||
13 | 1970, sergeant in 1975, lieutenant in 1977, captain in 1982, | ||||||
14 | superintendent in 1987, and first deputy director in 1991; he | ||||||
15 | retired as acting director of the ISP after 36 years of | ||||||
16 | service; and

17 | WHEREAS, Gene Marlin implemented a number of changes to | ||||||
18 | the ISP; he helped introduce CompStat and the Forensic Science | ||||||
19 | Center from Chicago into the ISP; under his guidance, ISP Air | ||||||
20 | Operations grew substantially; he also spearheaded the | ||||||
21 | acquisition of high-performance additions to the ISP's fleet | ||||||
22 | for a Summer Strike Force, a covert patrol created to counter |

1 | the emerging trend of road rage; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, During his career, Gene Marlin received a number | ||||||
3 | of awards, including a lifesaving medal; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Gene Marlin was preceded in death by his parents | ||||||
5 | and his wife; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Gene Marlin is survived by his sons, Douglas | ||||||
7 | (Angie) Marlin and Christopher (Maggie) Weidler; his daughter, | ||||||
8 | Brenda Jo Marlin-Miller; and his grandchildren, Rachel | ||||||
9 | (fiancé, Dan) Marlin, Brett (Maycee) Marlin, Blake (fiancée, | ||||||
10 | Jazmine) Marlin, Lilly Weidler, Molly Weidler, Dylan (fiancée, | ||||||
11 | Becca) Miller, and Wyatt Miller; therefore, be it

12 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
13 | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
14 | we mourn the passing of Gene Pool Marlin and extend our sincere | ||||||
15 | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
16 | him; and be it further

18 | presented to the family of Gene Marlin as an expression of our | ||||||
