HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The personal prosperity of Illinois citizens and
3 the economic security of our nation will require uniting our
4 workforce development, education, and economic development
5 strategies in a common effort to provide our citizens with
6 higher skills and supply our businesses with qualified workers;
7 and
8 WHEREAS, The economic security of Illinois citizens will
9 enhance the quality and productivity of people and businesses
10 and provide effective economic development strategies for the
11 workforce needs of the future; and
12 WHEREAS, The Illinois Local Workforce System and One-Stop
13 Centers must be able to offer more programs and services to a
14 wider customer base; and
15 WHEREAS, The Illinois Workforce Development System must
16 continue to recognize the value of local decision making, which
17 is key to the success of the future workforce; and
18 WHEREAS, The local workforce investment boards, which are
19 comprised of a majority of business leaders and who have worked
20 effectively in partnership with chief elected officials,
21 should continue to be the cornerstone of the Workforce

2 WHEREAS, The One-Stop System must have sufficient
3 resources to offer comprehensive services, universal access,
4 and lifelong learning options for both business and
5 individuals; therefore, be it
6 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
7 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, That we
8 recognize the importance of workforce development and
9 designate the week of August 31, 2009, as "Workforce
10 Development Week" in the State of Illinois to showcase the
11 Illinois workforce system.
