| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, On May 19, 2021, Illinois State Representative | ||||||
| 3 | William Davis (Democrat) and Illinois State Representative and | ||||||
| 4 | Assistant Minority Leader Tim Butler (Republican), as | ||||||
| 5 | co-chairs, established the Illinois Statehouse Taiwan | ||||||
| 6 | Friendship Caucus; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, The Illinois Statehouse Taiwan Friendship Caucus | ||||||
| 8 | is initiated during the tenure of Johnson Chiang, Director | ||||||
| 9 | General of the Taiwan Economic and Cultural Office for the | ||||||
| 10 | Midwestern states located in Chicago; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, The Illinois House will be the first statehouse | ||||||
| 12 | to establish a Taiwan Friendship Caucus, and the caucus has | ||||||
| 13 | bi-partisan support; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Taiwan shares the same values of freedom, | ||||||
| 15 | democracy, human rights, the rule of law, peace, and | ||||||
| 16 | prosperity with the United States and the State of Illinois; | ||||||
| 17 | and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, The Illinois Statehouse Taiwan Friendship Caucus | ||||||
| 19 | will continue the bilateral relationship with Taiwan and will | ||||||
| 20 | continue to affirm and support its meaningful participation in | ||||||
| 21 | international organizations; and

| 1 | WHEREAS, The Illinois Statehouse Taiwan Friendship Caucus | ||||||
| 2 | will continue to reaffirm a commitment to strengthening and | ||||||
| 3 | deepening the sister ties between the State of Illinois and | ||||||
| 4 | Taiwan; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 5 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 6 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 7 | we commemorate the formation of the Illinois Statehouse Taiwan | ||||||
| 8 | Friendship Caucus; and be it further
| ||||||
| 9 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 10 | presented to Director General Johnson Chiang as the diplomatic | ||||||
| 11 | representative of Taiwan for the Midwestern states located in | ||||||
| 12 | Chicago.
