2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to honor the memory of Gilda | ||||||
4 | Radner, comedienne, on this 20th anniversary of her passing; | ||||||
5 | and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Gilda was first diagnosed with ovarian cancer in | ||||||
7 | October 1986 and later passed away in May 1989; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, During her fight with cancer, Gilda was introduced | ||||||
9 | to cancer support groups to help her better cope with her | ||||||
10 | illness and understand her experience; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Gilda's dream was to develop a community where | ||||||
12 | anyone with cancer could receive the kind of support she found; | ||||||
13 | and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Gilda's Club was founded in 1991 to provide | ||||||
15 | support to people living with cancer, their friends and | ||||||
16 | families; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Gilda's Club Chicago was founded in 1998 to build | ||||||
18 | social, emotional, and informational support as an essential | ||||||
19 | supplement to medical care for people diagnosed with cancer and | ||||||
20 | their families and friends; and

1 | WHEREAS, Gilda's Club Chicago has offered free support to | ||||||
2 | more than 6,000 members and thousands more family and friends | ||||||
3 | from the Chicagoland area who have been affected by cancer; | ||||||
4 | therefore, be it

5 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
6 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that a | ||||||
7 | suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Gilda's Club | ||||||
8 | Chicago as an expression of our gratitude and respect for their | ||||||
9 | support of people living with cancer in honor of Gilda Radner.
