HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of United
4States Marine Corps Cpl. Daniel Baker, who passed away on
5December 6, 2018 over the Sea of Japan when a F/A-18D Hornet
6and a KC-130J Hercules collided during an aerial refueling
7mishap; and
8 WHEREAS, Cpl. Baker grew up in Tremont; he was a 2015
9graduate of Tremont High School and an Illinois State Scholar;
10and
11 WHEREAS, Cpl. Baker enlisted with the United States Marine
12Corps in spring of 2016 as a KC-130j Crewmaster; and
13 WHEREAS, Cpl. Baker completed his Marine recruit training
14in August 2016 and earned a meritorious promotion to Private
15First Class; and
16 WHEREAS, Cpl. Baker attended Corporals Training at MCAS
17Iwakuni, where he graduated top of his class; he received an
18award for academic excellence in August 2018; and
19 WHEREAS, Cpl. Baker served two years in the Marine Corps;
20his decorations include the National Defense Service Medal and

1the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; and
2 WHEREAS, Cpl. Baker is survived by his parents, Duane and
3Elizabeth Baker; his sister, Adelle Baker; and his
4grandparents, Herman and Eva Baker and Dr. Daniel and Joanne
5Baer; therefore, be it
6 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
7HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
8we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of
9United States Marine Cpl. Daniel Baker; and be it further
10 RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Cpl. Baker and his
11encouraging, positive, adventurous spirit and his willingness
12to serve our country, which led to him making the ultimate
13sacrifice; and be it further
14 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Cpl. Baker as a symbol of our
16sincere sympathy and gratitude for his service.
