| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. Frankie | ||||||
| 4 | Sutherland on her retirement from General George S. Patton | ||||||
| 5 | School District 133; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Dr. Frankie Sutherland has spent 29 years in the | ||||||
| 7 | field of education; the last 17 of those years in District 133, | ||||||
| 8 | with 7 of them as principal and 10 as superintendent; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Dr. Frankie Sutherland graduated from Tougaloo | ||||||
| 10 | College in Mississippi in 1972 and began teaching at Malcolm X | ||||||
| 11 | College in Chicago; in 1984, she moved to the Chicago Public | ||||||
| 12 | School system at Medill Primary School and in 1996 she joined | ||||||
| 13 | General George S. Patton School District 133 in Riverdale to | ||||||
| 14 | serve as principal, then assistant superintendent, and | ||||||
| 15 | eventually superintendent; during this time, she received 2 | ||||||
| 16 | masters degrees from Chicago State University, one in school | ||||||
| 17 | guidance and counseling and the other in educational | ||||||
| 18 | administration; she received her doctorate from Loyola | ||||||
| 19 | University in Chicago in educational leadership; and
| ||||||
| 20 | WHEREAS, Dr. Frankie Sutherland volunteered with the Ebony | ||||||
| 21 | Fashion Fair from 1996 to 2001, serving as general chairperson | ||||||
| 22 | in 1999 and 2000 to raise money for the United Negro College | ||||||

| 1 | Fund (UNCF); she is active in the Chicago Inter Alumni Council, | ||||||
| 2 | which is made up of historically black colleges and assists | ||||||
| 3 | with several fundraisers throughout the year sponsored by the | ||||||
| 4 | council where the proceeds go to the UNCF; she sponsors | ||||||
| 5 | students in her school district for the week-long annual Young | ||||||
| 6 | Leadership Program in Washington, D.C., and she sponsors a | ||||||
| 7 | student in her school district for a summer internship in the | ||||||
| 8 | business department at Stanford University in California; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Dr. Frankie Sutherland is a member of the American | ||||||
| 10 | Association of School Administrators, the Illinois Association | ||||||
| 11 | of School Administrators, the NAACP, the Southern Poverty Law | ||||||
| 12 | Center, and many other non-profit organizations; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Dr. Frankie Sutherland has one son, Steven Craig | ||||||
| 14 | Sutherland and one grandson, Steven Jr.; she enjoys attending | ||||||
| 15 | Steven Jr.'s sporting events, gardening, and traveling; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Dr. Frankie Sutherland's retirement will become | ||||||
| 17 | official on June 30, 2013; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 18 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 19 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 20 | we congratulate Dr. Frankie Sutherland on her retirement, thank | ||||||
| 21 | her for her commitment to education, and wish her all the best | ||||||
| 22 | in her future endeavours; and be it further
| ||||||
