2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Charles | ||||||
4 | "Chuck" Hanfelder, who passed away on June 20, 2023; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Chuck Hanfelder was born to Josephine Hanfelder | ||||||
6 | and William Charles Hanfelder in Roxana on January 25, 1933; | ||||||
7 | he attended Roxana High School and worked on his family's farm | ||||||
8 | and as a service station attendant for Hannebaum Standard | ||||||
9 | Service in Wood River; he married Sonja McCord on December 8, | ||||||
10 | 1956; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Chuck Hanfelder was employed by the Western | ||||||
12 | Cartridge Company in the inspection department until being | ||||||
13 | drafted into the U.S. Army; he served a tour of duty in Korea | ||||||
14 | with the 987th Armored Field Artillery Battalion; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, After military service, Chuck Hanfelder became a | ||||||
16 | partner in the Hanfelder Insurance Agency, which the family | ||||||
17 | later sold; he was employed as a comptroller by L.J. Ross, Inc. | ||||||
18 | in Granite City for 24 years; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, After retiring, Chuck Hanfelder was employed by | ||||||
20 | Coach House Garage and was involved with the Madison County | ||||||
21 | Republicans; through his work in the Republican Party, he had |

1 | an award named after him; he was also elected to and served on | ||||||
2 | the board of Lewis Clark Community College; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Chuck Hanfelder loved to spend time at his | ||||||
4 | property in Calhoun County and maintain rental properties; he | ||||||
5 | also enjoyed every occasion that allowed him to spend time | ||||||
6 | with his sons and their families and all the friends he made | ||||||
7 | while serving his community; and

8 | WHEREAS, Chuck Hanfelder was preceded in death by his | ||||||
9 | parents and his siblings, Kenneth Hanfelder, Arthur Hanfelder, | ||||||
10 | Robert Hanfelder, Helen Perry, Doris Stille, Margaret Hinkle | ||||||
11 | Alice Schuessler, and Kathryn Smith; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Chuck Hanfelder is survived by his spouse, Sonja; | ||||||
13 | his son, Charles "Butch" Hanfelder II and his wife, Rhonda; | ||||||
14 | his son, Mark Hanfelder and his wife, Debbie; four | ||||||
15 | granddaughters; five great-grandchildren; a | ||||||
16 | great-great-grandson; his siblings, Rita Sutton, Gladys | ||||||
17 | Abernathy, Phyllis (Dale) Noble, and Joseph Hanfelder; and | ||||||
18 | numerous nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
| ||||||
19 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
20 | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
21 | we mourn the passing of Charles "Chuck" Hanfelder and extend | ||||||
22 | our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who |

1 | knew and loved him; and be it further
| ||||||
2 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
3 | presented to the family of Chuck Hanfelder as an expression of | ||||||
4 | our deepest sympathy.
