| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are deeply saddened to learn of the death of | ||||||
| 4 | longtime Illinois State Representative and Senator Robert | ||||||
| 5 | McCarthy; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Robert McCarthy was born on May 28, 1924 in | ||||||
| 7 | Lincoln; his parents were James and Anna McCarthy; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Robert McCarthy served proudly in the United | ||||||
| 9 | States Army during World War II; he later graduated from | ||||||
| 10 | Lincoln College and the University of Illinois College of Law | ||||||
| 11 | in 1947, where he was affiliated with the Phi Delta Theta | ||||||
| 12 | Social Fraternity; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Robert McCarthy served in the Illinois General | ||||||
| 14 | Assembly as a State Representative from 1954 to 1960 and as a | ||||||
| 15 | State Senator from 1961 to 1977; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, During his 22 years as a State legislator, | ||||||
| 17 | representing the Decatur area, Robert McCarthy worked | ||||||
| 18 | tirelessly on behalf of those who entrusted him to serve; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Robert McCarthy cared deeply about the working | ||||||
| 20 | class and was relentless in his efforts to ensure workers were | ||||||

| 1 | treated with the respect and dignity they deserved; and
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Robert McCarthy was a man of great faith who | ||||||
| 3 | believed strongly in giving back to his community; and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, Robert McCarthy was joined in his accomplishments | ||||||
| 5 | by his wife of 62 years, Mary McCarthy; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Robert McCarthy's positive reputation throughout | ||||||
| 7 | the community is a testament to his character and unwavering | ||||||
| 8 | commitment to improving the lives of those he came into contact | ||||||
| 9 | with; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 10 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 11 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 12 | mourn the passing of Robert McCarthy and extend our sincere | ||||||
| 13 | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
| 14 | him; and be it further
| ||||||
| 15 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 16 | presented to the family of Robert McCarthy as an expression of | ||||||
| 17 | our greatest sympathy and respect.
