| 2 | WHEREAS, The Chicago Area Project was established in 1934 | ||||||
| 3 | as a model for juvenile delinquency prevention and to provide | ||||||
| 4 | youth and community services; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, The effectiveness of the Chicago Area Project | ||||||
| 6 | model has been recognized by the State of Illinois and | ||||||
| 7 | replicated in many communities throughout the State; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Area Projects have formed the Illinois Council of | ||||||
| 9 | Area Projects; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Services and after-school programs operated by | ||||||
| 11 | community-based organizations provide opportunities and | ||||||
| 12 | experiences for our youth that have a positive impact on their | ||||||
| 13 | development; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Chicago Area Project and the Illinois Council of | ||||||
| 15 | Area Projects are sponsoring Youth Democracy Day on May 7, | ||||||
| 16 | 2009; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Youth Democracy Day celebrates the skills, | ||||||
| 18 | talents, and potential of our young people and encourages them | ||||||
| 19 | to learn about democracy and to get involved in the democratic | ||||||
| 20 | process; therefore, be it

| 2 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 3 | congratulate the Chicago Area Project and the Illinois Council | ||||||
| 4 | of Area Projects for sponsoring Youth Democracy Day on May 7, | ||||||
| 5 | 2009, and encourage the youth of our State to learn about and | ||||||
| 6 | participate in the democratic process.
