2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to recognize Beatrice Mensah Tayui for | ||||||
4 | her work in organizing the Illinois Legislative Black Caucus's | ||||||
5 | West African trip to Ghana in January 2023; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, From January 14, 2023 to January 23, 2023, the | ||||||
7 | eight member delegation visited Accra, Ghana, a prominent | ||||||
8 | African city that is rich in tradition, the homeland of many | ||||||
9 | Illinois residents, the capital of Ghana, and the first | ||||||
10 | African nation to gain independence from colonial rule; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Highlights of the trip included meeting with | ||||||
12 | Elizabeth Sackey, the first woman to serve as Mayor of Accra, | ||||||
13 | visiting the U.S. Embassy in Ghana, and meeting with John | ||||||
14 | Kufuor, the former President of Ghana;
and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Beatrice Tayui served as a co-organizer for the | ||||||
16 | Illinois Legislative Black Caucus delegation's trip to Ghana; | ||||||
17 | and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Beatrice Tayui, originally from Ghana, earned | ||||||
19 | Bachelors of Science in Economics and Business Administration | ||||||
20 | from Roosevelt University in Chicago; and

1 | WHEREAS, Prior to establishing her own global businesses, | ||||||
2 | Beatrice Tayui held executive leadership positions at several | ||||||
3 | Fortune 500 companies, including Pfizer, Hoffman La Roche, and | ||||||
4 | Johnson & Johnson; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Beatrice Tayui is a seasoned chief executive | ||||||
6 | officer (CEO) who has founded and operated several businesses | ||||||
7 | on the international landscape with a focus on oil and gas in | ||||||
8 | Sub-Saharan Africa; she is the founder and CEO of Cybele | ||||||
9 | Energy Global and Cybele Energy Limited, a Ghana-based oil and | ||||||
10 | gas company focused on the exploration and production of oil | ||||||
11 | blocks within West Africa; she is also the founder of the | ||||||
12 | Illinois-based White Oak Technologies, Inc., which has been | ||||||
13 | established to train, certify, place, and mentor young and | ||||||
14 | dynamic African Americans into the corporate technology space; | ||||||
15 | and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Beatrice Tayui provides mentoring and sponsorship | ||||||
17 | programs for less fortunate children in the Chicagoland | ||||||
18 | community; her passion for education has also led her to | ||||||
19 | actively donate to a polytechnic institution in her native | ||||||
20 | country of Ghana; and

21 | WHEREAS, Beatrice Tayui's business knowledge and | ||||||
22 | distinctive leadership skills have earned her several awards | ||||||
23 | from organizations globally; and

1 | WHEREAS, Beatrice Tayui resides in Flossmoor and is the | ||||||
2 | mother of three children; therefore, be it
| ||||||
3 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
4 | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
5 | we recognize Beatrice Mensah Tayui for co-organizing the | ||||||
6 | Illinois Legislative Black Caucus delegation's trip to Ghana | ||||||
7 | in West Africa in January 2023; and be it further
| ||||||
8 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
9 | presented to Beatrice Tayui as a symbol of our esteem and | ||||||
10 | respect.
