HOUSE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, On March 26, 2010, Marion's Sister City program
was established with the signing of an agreement between Marion
Mayor Robert L. Butler and Mayor Junichi Yokoe of Kanie, Aichi,
Japan; and
WHEREAS, Representatives from Kanie, including city
officials and students, visited Marion in 2010, 2012, and 2013;
in 2010, Marion sent adult representatives to Kanie; and
WHEREAS, Representatives from Kanie will again visit
Marion from March 25 to 29, 2017; and
WHEREAS, In July 2017, a contingent of students and adults
representing the City of Marion will travel to Kanie to spend a
week experiencing the Japanese way of life; and
WHEREAS, The sister city program encourages an
understanding of cultures, enhances the esteem that citizens
have for one another, and promotes cooperation in many
different fields; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
recognize the sister city relationship between the cities of

Marion and Kanie, Aichi, Japan, and their continuing efforts to
maintain a successful relationship; and be it further
RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
presented to Marion Mayor Robert L. Butler and the
representatives from Kanie upon their upcoming visit.
