HOUSE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Carolyn
Rush of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Carolyn Rush was born in Memphis, Tennessee on May
27, 1949; she moved to Chicago at an early age; she graduated
from Hirsch High School and Roosevelt University in Chicago
with high honors with a Bachelor of Arts in Organizational
Leadership; and
WHEREAS, Carolyn Rush served as Chairman of the Board of
Directors of Beloved Community Family Services, an
organization whose mission is to provide a network of
compassionate services that promote the cultural, economic,
and social well-being of youth and families in the Englewood
and surrounding communities; and
WHEREAS, Carolyn Rush's professional career includes four
years of service as the creator and administrator of the
Banking Development Program for the Treasurer of the State of
Illinois; and
WHEREAS, Carolyn Rush worked as a community organizer,
precinct captain, and political strategist in many campaigns;

she was instrumental in the civil rights movement, working to
end discrimination in housing and employment; and
WHEREAS, Carolyn Rush was the longtime political advisor to
her husband, U.S. Congressman Bobby Rush, and served as First
Lady of the Beloved Community Church of God in Christ, a church
founded by her husband; she also served the Church in a
leadership capacity through her diligent work in the Church's
Core Leadership Group; and
WHEREAS, Carolyn Rush was an avid gardener and enjoyed
antiquing and exploring her interest in vintage architecture;
she loved to read and developed an interest in writing; and
WHEREAS, Carolyn Rush is survived by her husband of 36
years, U.S. Congressman Bobby Rush; six children; and 14
grandchildren; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
mourn the passing of Carolyn Rush, and extend our sincere
condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
her; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Carolyn Rush as an expression of our
