2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to recognize Aviv Ezra on the occasion of | ||||||
4 | his retirement as Consul General of Israel to the Midwest; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Aviv Ezra was born in Israel to an Israeli | ||||||
6 | diplomat and a teacher in 1972; he served in the Israel Defense | ||||||
7 | Forces, where he achieved the rank of captain; he received his | ||||||
8 | Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Political Science from | ||||||
9 | Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Aviv Ezra joined Israel's Foreign Ministry in | ||||||
11 | 1999; he served as the economic and commercial attaché to | ||||||
12 | Cairo, Egypt from 2000 to 2002; he served as the deputy consul | ||||||
13 | general for the Southeastern region of the U.S. at the | ||||||
14 | Consulate General of Israel in Atlanta, Georgia from 2002 to | ||||||
15 | 2006; he was appointed as a policy advisor to the director | ||||||
16 | general of the Foreign Ministry in 2006; after serving five | ||||||
17 | years as Israel's liaison to the U.S. Congress, he was | ||||||
18 | appointed as counselor in the Foreign Ministry's North America | ||||||
19 | Division Congressional Affairs Department in 2013; and

20 | WHEREAS, Aviv Ezra was appointed as Consul General of | ||||||
21 | Israel to the Midwest based in Chicago in 2016 and was | ||||||
22 | responsible for nine Midwestern states, including Illinois, |

1 | Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, | ||||||
2 | South Dakota, and Wisconsin; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, During his five-year tenure, Aviv Ezra oversaw a | ||||||
4 | number of developments in Israeli-United States relations, | ||||||
5 | including Tel Aviv University and Hebrew University joining | ||||||
6 | the University of Illinois in the Discovery Partners Institute | ||||||
7 | (DPI), the implementation of the NATAL Model for trauma | ||||||
8 | resiliency in Bronzeville, the signing of a memorandum of | ||||||
9 | understanding (MOU) between the City of Chicago and the Peres | ||||||
10 | Center for Peace and Innovation in 2019, the launch of a | ||||||
11 | non-stop flight route between Chicago O'Hare Airport and Tel | ||||||
12 | Aviv Ben Gurion in September 2020, the partnership of Mt. | ||||||
13 | Sinai Chicago Hospital and Shamir Medical Center, co-leading | ||||||
14 | the Chicago-Israel Healthtech Summit alongside the digital | ||||||
15 | health hub MATTER and the Sheba Medical Center, and many more | ||||||
16 | too numerous to mention; and

17 | WHEREAS, Aviv Ezra is married to Einat, and they have | ||||||
18 | three children; therefore, be it

19 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
20 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
21 | we recognize Aviv Ezra on his retirement as Consul General of | ||||||
22 | Israel to the Midwest, and we commend him for his years of | ||||||
23 | service to Israel-United States relations; and be it further
