HOUSE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
Representatives wish to recognize the Turkish American Society
of Chicago's first annual Intercultural Art and Language
Contest, which will be held at the AKOO Theater in Rosemont on
March 24, 2013; and
WHEREAS, The Turkish American Society of Chicago (TASC)
Intercultural Art and Language Contest was created to promote
friendship and dialogue between different cultures; the
contestants will perform folk dances, sing songs, and recite
poetry in languages such as English, Spanish, and Turkish; and
WHEREAS, The TASC began operating in 2005 in the city of
Mount Prospect to facilitate and encourage cross-cultural
experiences and ongoing dialogue on issues of diversity; and
WHEREAS, The TASC is involved in generous philanthropic
ventures, including raising donations to aid victims of
Hurricane Sandy and the October 2011 earthquake in Eastern
Turkey; and
WHEREAS, The TASC performs important work in communities
across Illinois; such activities include addressing the social
and cultural needs of the Turkish American community living in

the Chicago area; introducing Turkish culture to the Chicago
area and establishing bridges between different cultures;
uniting the Turkish-American community; creating a welcoming
environment for newcomers and helping them adapt to life in the
U.S.; providing the community with educational services; and
establishing dialogue among communities with the goal of
leading to global peace; and
WHEREAS, The TASC's work in uniting the people of this
State and spreading the wonders of Turkish culture is worthy of
the greatest respect; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
we recognize the Turkish American Society of Chicago's first
annual Intercultural Art and Language Contest and thank the
TASC for their wonderful work; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the Turkish American Society of Chicago as a
symbol of our esteem and respect.
