2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Andrew | ||||||
4 | Cash of Chicago, who passed away on August 17, 2014; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Andrew Cash was born in Chicago on June 11, 1946 | ||||||
6 | to Welton Sank, Sr. and Mealia Cash; he attended Daniel Hale | ||||||
7 | Williams Elementary School and Wendell Phillips Academy High | ||||||
8 | School, where he excelled at track and field and was a member | ||||||
9 | of the 1962 Wendell Phillips Academy High School State | ||||||
10 | Championship Track Team, setting a new record of 53.7 seconds | ||||||
11 | in the Junior 440 Yard Dash event, a record that still stands | ||||||
12 | today; he attended Eastern Kentucky State University in | ||||||
13 | Richmond, Kentucky; he married Patricia Lynn Brown on May 13, | ||||||
14 | 1973; he later married Barbara McGhee on May 17, 1986; and

15 | WHEREAS, Andrew Cash worked as part of the administrative | ||||||
16 | maintenance staff at Provident Hospital; he then delved into | ||||||
17 | the world of martial arts, eventually earning the rank of black | ||||||
18 | belt; he was head instructor at the Pagoda Martial Arts | ||||||
19 | Academy; he was inducted into the World Martial Arts Hall of | ||||||
20 | Fame on May 18, 1996; he established his own school, the Unity | ||||||
21 | Martial Arts Academy; he was elevated to the rank of Kyoshi | ||||||
22 | (8th Dan) and was co-founder of the Midwest United Martial Arts | ||||||
23 | Association; in 2004, he established Body Sculpting by Cash; he |

1 | studied with the International Fitness Association and | ||||||
2 | received certificates as an aerobics instructor and personal | ||||||
3 | trainer with emphasis on step, kickboxing, and group exercise; | ||||||
4 | he was also a Certified Sports Nutritionist; and

5 | WHEREAS, Andrew Cash was inducted into the Wendell Phillips | ||||||
6 | High School Hall of Fame in October of 2010; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Andrew Cash was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
8 | and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Andrew Cash was survived by his wife, Barbara; his | ||||||
10 | children, Bruce, Patrice, and Patrick; his grandchildren, | ||||||
11 | Jasmine Mone't and Kendall Peyton; his siblings, Madeleine, | ||||||
12 | Agnes, Melissa, Rosetta, Marietta, and Welton, Jr.; and a host | ||||||
13 | of other relatives, martial arts students, personal training | ||||||
14 | clients, and dear friends; therefore, be it

15 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
16 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
17 | mourn the passing of Andrew Cash, and extend our sincere | ||||||
18 | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
19 | him; and be it further

20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
21 | presented to the family of Andrew Cash as an expression of our |
