HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate John Aranza on receiving
4the 32nd Annual Charles E. Piper Award; and
5 WHEREAS, The Charles E. Piper Award celebrates Berwyn's
6"Business Person of the Year" recognizing contributions to
7making Berwyn a better place to live; and
8 WHEREAS, John Aranza is a respected member of the Berwyn
9community; he has established two businesses and purchased a
10home in Berwyn; his business ventures include Horrorbles, a
11horror and collectibles memorabilia store, and the
12award-winning, Autre Monde Cafe & Spirits, which he operates
13with his wife, Christine Tully Aranza, and former colleagues
14and chefs, Dan Pancake, and Beth Partridge; and
15 WHEREAS, John Aranza has contributed to many community
16events, including the Berwyn Route 66 Car Show, Oktoberfest,
17The Moving Wall, the Green Mile Pub Crawl, and the Zombie Walk &
18 Pub Crawl; his restaurant gives back to the community through
19Community Tuesdays where local not-for-profit charities
20received a portion of the restaurant's proceeds; the restaurant
21also has donated a greenhouse to the Berwyn Park District; and

1 WHEREAS, John Aranza served on the Board of Directors of
2the Berwyn Development Corporation (BDC) for six years and has
3been a business member of the BDC for 11 years; he has
4contributed to the creative success behind the city's "Why
5Berwyn?" integrated marketing campaign; and
6 WHEREAS, John Aranza grew up in Chicago's Bridgeport
7neighborhood; he received his bachelor's degree from Lewis
8University, where he majored in marketing and minored in
9business; he studied for his master's degree in theology at the
10University of Chicago; in his spare time, he enjoys watching
11movies, collecting memorabilia, and tinkering in woodworking;
12therefore, be it
13 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
14HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
15congratulate John Aranza on receiving the 32nd Annual Charles
16E. Piper Award, and we thank him for his contributions to the
17City of Berwyn; and be it further
18 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to John Aranza as an expression of our esteem and
20respect.
