2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate John Aranza on receiving | ||||||
4 | the 32nd Annual Charles E. Piper Award; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, The Charles E. Piper Award celebrates Berwyn's | ||||||
6 | "Business Person of the Year" recognizing contributions to | ||||||
7 | making Berwyn a better place to live; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, John Aranza is a respected member of the Berwyn | ||||||
9 | community; he has established two businesses and purchased a | ||||||
10 | home in Berwyn; his business ventures include Horrorbles, a | ||||||
11 | horror and collectibles memorabilia store, and the | ||||||
12 | award-winning, Autre Monde Cafe & Spirits, which he operates | ||||||
13 | with his wife, Christine Tully Aranza, and former colleagues | ||||||
14 | and chefs, Dan Pancake, and Beth Partridge; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, John Aranza has contributed to many community | ||||||
16 | events, including the Berwyn Route 66 Car Show, Oktoberfest, | ||||||
17 | The Moving Wall, the Green Mile Pub Crawl, and the Zombie Walk & | ||||||
18 | Pub Crawl; his restaurant gives back to the community through | ||||||
19 | Community Tuesdays where local not-for-profit charities | ||||||
20 | received a portion of the restaurant's proceeds; the restaurant | ||||||
21 | also has donated a greenhouse to the Berwyn Park District; and

1 | WHEREAS, John Aranza served on the Board of Directors of | ||||||
2 | the Berwyn Development Corporation (BDC) for six years and has | ||||||
3 | been a business member of the BDC for 11 years; he has | ||||||
4 | contributed to the creative success behind the city's "Why | ||||||
5 | Berwyn?" integrated marketing campaign; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, John Aranza grew up in Chicago's Bridgeport | ||||||
7 | neighborhood; he received his bachelor's degree from Lewis | ||||||
8 | University, where he majored in marketing and minored in | ||||||
9 | business; he studied for his master's degree in theology at the | ||||||
10 | University of Chicago; in his spare time, he enjoys watching | ||||||
11 | movies, collecting memorabilia, and tinkering in woodworking; | ||||||
12 | therefore, be it

13 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
14 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
15 | congratulate John Aranza on receiving the 32nd Annual Charles | ||||||
16 | E. Piper Award, and we thank him for his contributions to the | ||||||
17 | City of Berwyn; and be it further
