| 2 | WHEREAS, It is antithetical to the principles of American | ||||||
| 3 | democracy for the government of the United States to use drones | ||||||
| 4 | to conduct criminal investigations of U.S. citizens without a | ||||||
| 5 | warrant; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, U.S. Attorney General, Eric Holder, recently | ||||||
| 7 | opined before the Senate Judiciary Committee that targeted | ||||||
| 8 | killings of American citizens by drones on U.S. soil might be | ||||||
| 9 | justified, but refused to release the legal memoranda | ||||||
| 10 | supporting that position; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 11 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 12 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 13 | we urge the Illinois congressional delegation to eliminate the | ||||||
| 14 | threat of drones being used to conduct warrantless searches of | ||||||
| 15 | U.S. citizens by supporting the passage of the Preserving | ||||||
| 16 | Freedom from Unwarranted Surveillance Act (S. 3287); and be it | ||||||
| 17 | further
