HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Clarence
4B. Williamson Sr., who passed away on June 27, 2020; and
5 WHEREAS, Clarence Williamson was born in Chicago to Robert
6E. and Annie V. Williamson on June 1, 1930; he attended St.
7Elizabeth High School, Roosevelt University, and later in
8life, Chicago State University, where he received his Bachelor
9of Arts and Master of Science; in 1951, he married Marion
10Degraffimeed; and
11 WHEREAS, Clarence Williamson worked in many of the
12family-owned businesses; he then started on a long political
13career; he became the first Precinct Captain of Parkway
14Gardens, Vice President of the Young Democrats, 6th Ward
15Executive Secretary, and Precinct Committeeman of the 6th Ward
16Democratic Organization for 27 years; he served as a State
17Representative in the Illinois General Assembly for the 29th
18District; and
19 WHEREAS, During the tenure of Chicago Mayor Eugene Sawyer,
20Clarence Williamson served as his Administrative Assistant and
21Director of Contract Compliance and Affirmative Action; he
22retired from the Cook County Department of Probation in 1997;

2 WHEREAS, Clarence Williamson continued working in the
3insurance field, first as an underwriter for New York Life and
4eventually becoming President of Vital Associates
5Incorporated; and
6 WHEREAS, Clarence Williamson was interviewed by and
7featured in The History Makers in August of 2000; he was a
8lover of Jazz and could be seen around Chicago at many Jazz
9events; he also had a passion for photography and swimming; he
10was a member of several organizations, including the National
11Association of Blacks in Criminal Justice, the Illinois
12Correctional Associations, the Knight of Columbus (4th
13Degree), Jazz Unites (Board Member), the Jazz Institute of
14Chicago, the Hyde Park Jazz Society, and Alpha Phi Alpha
15Fraternity, Inc.; and
16 WHEREAS, Clarence Williamson was preceded in death by his
17son, Clarence Jr.; his parents; his sister, Queenetta Miller;
18and his brothers, Joseph Williamson, Robert Williamson Jr.,
19and Theodore Williamson; and
20 WHEREAS, Clarence Williamson is survived by his wife,
21Marion; his grandson, Clarence III; his sister, Patricia
22Comeaux; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and numerous other

1family members and devoted friends; therefore, be it
2 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
3HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
4we mourn the passing of Clarence B. Williamson Sr. and extend
5our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who
6knew and loved him; and be it further
7 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8presented to the family of Clarence Williamson as an
9expression of our deepest sympathy.
