2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Clarence | ||||||
4 | B. Williamson Sr., who passed away on June 27, 2020; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Clarence Williamson was born in Chicago to Robert | ||||||
6 | E. and Annie V. Williamson on June 1, 1930; he attended St. | ||||||
7 | Elizabeth High School, Roosevelt University, and later in | ||||||
8 | life, Chicago
State University, where he received his Bachelor | ||||||
9 | of Arts and Master of Science; in 1951, he married Marion | ||||||
10 | Degraffimeed; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Clarence Williamson worked in many of the | ||||||
12 | family-owned businesses; he then started on a long political | ||||||
13 | career; he became the first Precinct Captain of
Parkway | ||||||
14 | Gardens, Vice President of the Young Democrats, 6th Ward | ||||||
15 | Executive
Secretary, and Precinct Committeeman of the 6th Ward | ||||||
16 | Democratic
Organization for 27 years; he served as a State | ||||||
17 | Representative in the Illinois General
Assembly for the 29th | ||||||
18 | District; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, During the tenure of Chicago Mayor Eugene Sawyer, | ||||||
20 | Clarence Williamson served as his
Administrative Assistant and | ||||||
21 | Director of Contract Compliance and Affirmative Action; he | ||||||
22 | retired from the Cook County Department of
Probation in 1997; |

2 | WHEREAS, Clarence Williamson continued working in the | ||||||
3 | insurance field, first as an
underwriter for New York Life and | ||||||
4 | eventually becoming President of Vital Associates
| ||||||
5 | Incorporated; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Clarence Williamson was interviewed by and
| ||||||
7 | featured in The History Makers in August of 2000; he was a | ||||||
8 | lover of Jazz and could be seen around Chicago at many Jazz | ||||||
9 | events; he also had a passion for photography and swimming; he | ||||||
10 | was a member of several organizations, including the National | ||||||
11 | Association of Blacks
in Criminal Justice, the Illinois | ||||||
12 | Correctional Associations, the Knight of Columbus (4th
| ||||||
13 | Degree), Jazz Unites (Board Member), the Jazz Institute of | ||||||
14 | Chicago, the Hyde Park Jazz
Society, and Alpha Phi Alpha | ||||||
15 | Fraternity, Inc.; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Clarence Williamson was preceded in death by his | ||||||
17 | son, Clarence Jr.; his parents; his
sister, Queenetta Miller; | ||||||
18 | and his brothers, Joseph Williamson, Robert Williamson Jr., | ||||||
19 | and
Theodore Williamson; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Clarence Williamson is survived by his wife, | ||||||
21 | Marion; his grandson, Clarence III; his
sister, Patricia | ||||||
22 | Comeaux; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and numerous other |

| |||||||

members and devoted friends; therefore, be it
| ||||||
2 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
3 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
4 | we mourn the passing of Clarence B. Williamson Sr. and extend | ||||||
5 | our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who | ||||||
6 | knew and loved him; and be it further
| ||||||
7 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
8 | presented to the family of Clarence Williamson as an | ||||||
9 | expression of our deepest sympathy.
