2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Reverend | ||||||
4 | Lundy Savage of Champaign, who passed away on February 15, | ||||||
5 | 2011; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, He was the first of 10 siblings raised in a | ||||||
7 | Chicago housing project to go to college, graduating from | ||||||
8 | Judson College in Elgin; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, He met his wife, Carolyn, in Chicago in 1965 and | ||||||
10 | married her the next year; the couple lived in Tulsa for about | ||||||
11 | 18 months, where he taught at Langston University; his first | ||||||
12 | pastorate was in Dixon; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, In 1971, he moved to Champaign and served the next | ||||||
14 | 40 years as the pastor of Mount Olive Baptist Church in | ||||||
15 | Champaign; he also served as the former president of the State | ||||||
16 | Convention of the National Baptist Convention USA and was a | ||||||
17 | former National Baptist Convention Regional Vice President for | ||||||
18 | the Midwest Region; and

19 | WHEREAS, He is remembered as a great educator and friend; | ||||||

1 | WHEREAS, Reverend Lundy Savage is survived by his wife, | ||||||
2 | Carolyn; his children, Scott and Christie; and other relatives, | ||||||
3 | friends, and congregation members; therefore, be it
| ||||||
4 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
5 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
6 | we mourn, along with his family, friends, and congregation, the | ||||||
7 | passing of Reverend Lundy Savage; and be it further
| ||||||
8 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
9 | presented to the family of Reverend Lundy Savage as a symbol of | ||||||
10 | our sincere sympathy.
