2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened by the death of former State | ||||||
4 | Representative Robert John "Bob" Walters, who passed away on | ||||||
5 | January 21, 2023 at the age of 92; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Rep. Walters was born to Joseph and Liguori | ||||||
7 | Walters in Alton; he attended Campion Jesuit High School and | ||||||
8 | St. Ambrose College; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Upon graduation, Rep. Walters proudly served in | ||||||
10 | the U.S. Army in Korea from 1953 until 1954; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Following his service, Rep. Walters worked for | ||||||
12 | his family's business before being elected in 1970 to the | ||||||
13 | Illinois House of Representatives, where he would proudly | ||||||
14 | serve his constituents for two terms; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Rep. Walters worked for 22 years as the Executive | ||||||
16 | Director of the Southwestern Illinois Employers Association | ||||||
17 | before being appointed in 2005 to the Illinois State Board of | ||||||
18 | Elections, where he worked until his retirement in 2012; and

19 | WHEREAS, Rep. Walters was known for his support of youth | ||||||
20 | sports as he was not only an athlete but also a coach and an |

1 | avid fan of Alton Marquette Catholic High School, Alton High | ||||||
2 | School, and Lewis & Clark Community College athletics; he | ||||||
3 | attended many games, and his presence radiated throughout the | ||||||
4 | crowd; and

5 | WHEREAS, Rep. Walters married his beloved wife, Jeanne | ||||||
6 | Osseck, in 1956, and they raised nine children, Robert Walters | ||||||
7 | Jr., Jim Walters, Theresa Logan, Linda Scheiter, Tom Walters, | ||||||
8 | Mike Walters, Carolyn McCluskey, Mary Zamorski, and David | ||||||
9 | Walters, and were blessed with 20 grandchildren and three | ||||||
10 | great-grandchildren; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Rep. Walters will be remembered for his | ||||||
12 | commitment to his faith, his eternal love for his family and | ||||||
13 | his wife, Jeanne, and his outstanding accomplishments in | ||||||
14 | serving the people of Illinois and beyond; therefore, be it
| ||||||
15 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
16 | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
17 | we mourn the passing of former State Representative Robert | ||||||
18 | "Bob" John Walters and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
19 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
20 | further

21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
22 | presented to the family of Rep. Bob Walters as an expression of |
