| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Sergeant Barry | ||||||
| 4 | Groesch of the Yorkville Police Department on his retirement; | ||||||
| 5 | and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, He was born in Aurora and moved to Yorkville while | ||||||
| 7 | he was in the 2nd grade; he graduated from Yorkville High | ||||||
| 8 | School in 1978; and he attended Waubonsee Community College; | ||||||
| 9 | and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Deciding to not pursue college, he went to work | ||||||
| 11 | for Barber-Greene, a factory that manufactured construction | ||||||
| 12 | equipment; when he turned 21 years old he was offered a job | ||||||
| 13 | with the Kendall County Sheriff's Department, where he worked | ||||||
| 14 | for two and a half years before being recruited by the | ||||||
| 15 | Yorkville Police Department; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, The DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) | ||||||
| 17 | program started in the 1980s, and Kendall County began a | ||||||
| 18 | countywide program, with Yorkville started their own program a | ||||||
| 19 | year later; Sergeant Groesch became a DARE prevention teacher | ||||||
| 20 | soon after, working with elementary and middle school kids; and
| ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, Sergeant Groesch taught DARE classes over a | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | 14-year period and became a statewide advocate of the program; | ||||||
| 2 | he was appointed as president of the Illinois DARE Officers | ||||||
| 3 | Association in 1997; he also served as the first school | ||||||
| 4 | resource officer at Yorkville High School and later worked as | ||||||
| 5 | the school resource officer at Yorkville Middle School; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, In addition to his work with the Yorkville Police | ||||||
| 7 | Department, he has also worked with the Boy Scouts, Kendall | ||||||
| 8 | County TRIAD, the Citizens Police Academy, the Yorkville Clergy | ||||||
| 9 | Association, and others; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 10 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 11 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 12 | we congratulate Sergeant Barry Groesch on his retirement and | ||||||
| 13 | wish him all the best in his future endeavors; and be it | ||||||
| 14 | further

| 15 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 16 | presented to Sergeant Barry Groesch as a symbol of our respect | ||||||
