HOUSE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Federation of Indian Associations was
established to both celebrate Asian-Indian history and culture
as well as to provide a platform and a voice for the
Asian-Indian community; and
WHEREAS, Over the years, the Federation of Indian
Associations has taken perceptions and interests about India to
the mainstream community and furthered the interests of Indians
residing in the United States; and
WHEREAS, It is in the spirit of celebrating Asian-Indian
culture and its influence in the mainstream community that we
gather together with the Federation of Indian Associations to
celebrate India's 66th Republic Day; and
WHEREAS, India's Republic Day commemorates the historic
events that began in 1947 when India gained her independence
from British rule and in 1950, formally established the
republic's constitution; India's Republic Day also offers a
wonderful opportunity for Indian Americans in the northwest
suburbs of Chicago to rejoice and celebrate their rich
heritage; and
WHEREAS, Celebrating India's Republic Day gives all

citizens a chance to embrace Indian culture and learn more
about its history and traditions; and
WHEREAS, India's Republic Day remembers the great
sacrifices that were made during the struggle for India's
independence; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
commemorate India's 66th Republic Day; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the Federation of Indian Associations as an
expression of our esteem and respect.
